Earlier today I was examining the packaging of the amazing new album by The Sleepy Jackson when I noticed something I had previously overlooked. Instead of artwork behind the part of the jewel case where the CD snaps into, there is this lengthy warning:
Thank you for buying this music and for supporting the artists, songwriters, musicians and others who’ve created it and made it possible.
Please remember that this recording and artwork are protected by copyright law. Since you don’t own the copyright, it’s not yours to distribute. Please don’t use Internet services that promote the illegal distribution of copyrighted music, give away illegal copies of discs or lend discs to others for copying. It’s hurting the artists who created the music. It has the same effect as stealing a disc from a store without paying for it.
I thought the funniest part was when they told me not to use internet services that promote illegal distribution. The whole message reaks of talk-down babytalk.
Has anyone else seen this message on other Astralwerks/EMI albums? Tell us about it here.
