It’s good to know censorship is still alive and well over at MTV. This time around, they’ve banned the new Public Enemy video.

New Pearl Jam Single
The folks at Netscape Music are bringing us a Real Audio Stream of Pearl Jam’s brand new single, I Am Mine.

In 200 years, pirates and rogues and scoundrels will sit around taverns and sing this song while drinking ale and rum. But starting right now, you’ll sing it to yourself.

….

The Kurt Cobain house, as previously mentioned in this blog, sold for $210,000.

One Year Later Ashes of

One Year Later
Ashes of American Flags by Wilco

The cash machine is blue and green
For a bundle of twenties and a small service fee
I could spend three dollars and sixty-three cents
On Diet Coca-Cola and unlit cigarettes
I wonder why we listen to poets when nobody gives a fuck
How hot and sorrowful, the machine begs for luck

All my lies are always wishes
I know I would die if I could come back new

We want a good life with a nose for things
the fresh wind and bright sky to endure my suffering
I’m a hole without a key if I break my tongue
Oh, speaking of tomorrow, how will it ever come?

All my lies are always wishes
I know I would die if I could come back new

I’m down on my hands and knees
every time I hear a doorbell ring
I shake like a toothache
every time I hear myself sing

All my lies are only wishes
I know I would die if I could come back new

I would like to salute
the ashes of American flags
And all the fallen leaves
filling up shopping bags

Ho-Hum

You can listen to U2’s new single in Real Audio right here. It’s off their upcoming best of collection, volume 2 (just in time for the holidays!). It’s a bit underwhelming, but why don’t you see for yourself.

It’s Not All Bad Out

It’s Not All Bad Out There
This week, Queens of the Stone Age’s new record debuted in the Billboard Top 20. It came in at #17, with sales of about 50,000 records.

This record has hardly any airplay on the radio, and only made an appearance on MTV2 towards the end of the week.

Positive buzz, an appearance on the “XXX” soundtrack, and having Dave Grohl play drums on the record all helped contribute to the success. In addition, the record was sold in some major chains (like “Best Buy”) for only $6.99.

There is a few lessons to be learned here. First, people don’t want to pay for expensive music because they’ve been burned too much in the past. Second, humans haven’t been dumbed down by this new wave of pop, they still like things that are Good. They just need to know about it. Finally, Queens of the Stone Age rock your ass off.

In other chart news, Aimee Mann came in at #35, and Coldplay came in at #5. Sadly, Silverchair’s latest record came in at #91. Who knew they had a new album? Who knew they were still around? Not this heehaw.

You’ll definitely earn some street cred after you buy Kurt Cobain’s childhood home on Ebay.

The dw.t.shirt idea snapped together in my brain last night like a rainstorm in the desert. You’re probably going to want to buy two.

We’re launching donewaiting.site proper in October 2002. That is the plan right now. I once imagined launching it on July 7, but that was only so we can advertise the date 07/07.

That was a dumb idea.

This new idea is not dumb.
