All I Want for Christmas Is For Ben Gibbard to Stop Snitchin’

Merry Christmas everybody. Let’s hope that in 2007 people remember that snitches get stitches.

R.I.P James Brown

James Brown, the dynamic, pompadoured “Godfather of Soul,” whose rasping vocals and revolutionary rhythms made him a founder of rap, funk and disco as well, died early Monday, his agent said. He was 73.

Brown was hospitalized with pneumonia at Emory Crawford Long Hospital on Sunday and died around 1:45 a.m. Monday, said his agent, Frank Copsidas of Intrigue Music. Longtime friend Charles Bobbit was by his side, he said. Full Story.

Columbus Ohio’s Times New Viking Signs to Matador Records

Seems like we’ve been talking about this in Columbus forever, but I guess since it’s now on Matador’s website, it’s officially officially official.

Times New Viking has joined the Matador Family, making this the second Matador band from Columbus (with Early Man). Expect to see the record sometime in 2007.

Here’s some MP3s from “Dig Yourself”, which came out in 2005.

Strokes Fan Discovers Transformers

Yeah, I’m a nerd. I loved the Transformers. Lazer Beak is my boy.

Anyway, the first real trailer to the Transformers Movie has been posted, and while it’s cool, I gotta say I was totally distracted by teenager’s Strokes t-shirt.

Is this movie set in 2002?

Asthmatic Kitty Records, I Love You

The other day I finally received my copy of the Sufjan Stevens Christmas Boxed Set that I ordered from Amazon. It’s a beautiful package – five CDs, stickers, poster all for $19.99.

Happiness turned to sadness when we realized that we were missing one of the five discs! At the time, Amazon was temporarily sold out, so I couldn’t return it. Was I screwed? Oh hell no!

I e-mailed the fine folks at Asmathic Kitty stating my problem (not even using my huge influence as a music blogger.. heh heh heh), and within a day they wrote me back and said they’d mail me a copy of the missing disc.

That’s customer service!

Please note: this thing is selling out left and right, so if you are interested in it, I’d suggest ordering it pronto.

BONUS: Stream the discs here.
