dw/Concert Area Open

I’ve set up a page where you can get all the information you need for upcoming donewaiting.com events.

When available I included links to mp3s of the bands playing. I’m planning to write up little capsule-sized descriptions of each show, too. Check it out, Charlie.

MTV The Magazine

I guess it had to come sooner or later.

With help on the business side from sibling Nickelodeon magazine, MTV will test the waters with single-topic, newsstand-only October (due on stands Oct. 21) and December issues that will have strong tie-ins to programming on the network. If the issues are successful, plans are to go bimonthly in 2004. MTV Magazine’s circulation rate base will be 300,000.

The themed-issue approach “allows us to present MTV, the brand, over time in a series of issues, rather than be all-MTV under one cover,” says Dan Sullivan, senior vp/group publisher of MTV Networks’ Nickelodeon Magazine Group. “If it’s big on MTV, it’ll be big in MTV. We’ll tap into the stories and events on the channel and amplify those in the issues.” (full story)

The biggest question I have is: what section of the magazine stand will they put the mag? If the magazine holds the same values as the television network, I’d expect it to have only 10% music editorial.

Merry Christmas, Wesley Willis

Wesley Willis Dead At 40

From Alternative Tentacles:

Dear Friends and fellow Wesleynauts,

We are deeply saddened to report that one of our artists, Wesley Willis passed away yesterday, Thursday, August 21st. Wesley will be greatly missed by all that had the privilege to know him, as well as the fans who have been fortunate enough to experience his genius.

Wesley was diagnosed with Chronic Myelogenous Leukemia (CML) at the end of 2002, and had to undergo emergency surgery on June 2nd to identify the source of, and to suppress internal bleeding. It is not clear if this bleeding was related to his leukemia or not, and the exact cause of death is still unknown. Wesley had been recovering at a Hospice in Illinois, and since the surgery his health had deteriorated rapidly.

His songs were simultaneously disturbing, hilarious, blunt, and intoxicating. Wesley’s sheer excitement and unaffected honesty about every cultural phenomenon, defined his music as truly individual, and truly punk rock.

Wesley released well over 50 albums – 3 of which are on Alternative Tentacles, and a 4th, entitled, Wesley Willis Greatest Hits Vol. 3 (CD) had already been scheduled for release in October of this year.

Currently there are no plans for any funeral service but we will inform you if there will be.

Kelly Osbourne Eats Fish With Elton John, Vomits

We saw this headline on MTV News Today: Kelly Osbourne Eats Fish With Elton John, Vomits.

I laughed so hard reading the story and headline my brain almost died. I was going to link to this story and write something funny about it, but how can you make that headline any better? It’s a perfect headline.

Instead, we asked one of our designers to do an artistic rendition of what happened:

Where’s the Weed?

Universal Records received a special delivery last week- $1 million dollars worth of marijuana delivered to their New York offices. (full story)

It makes me wonder why I worry about shipping items less than $100.

Download New Strokes Songs

Someone sent me this link that has two live versions of new Strokes song in the popular MP3 format. Grab it while you can.

Get A Phone Call From Andrew WK (Or Rerun)

It’s getting a lot easier to have a celebrity call you on the phone. First, you can pay $19.95 @ Hollywood is Calling and have washed up actors like Fred Berry or Todd Bridges call you.

Or you can be one of 1,000 random winners who will get a phone call from Andrew WK if you buy his new album. That’ll cost you less than $15.

For $7.50 I’ll have donewaiting.com writers Charlesworth and Steve Miller call you at the same time and have them sing the theme song to “All in the Family”
