Ween in the New York Times

I really should have seen Ween last week but instead saw a very bad Bright Eyes concert.

Since leaving Elektra Records, Ween put out two CD’s of live recordings on their Web site, ween.com. “On Elektra our best-selling record sold 200,000 copies or more,” Mr. Melchiondo said. “But we still owe all this money to the label. Then we sold just five or ten thousand CD’s through our Web site and raised $100,000 to make our new album.” (full story)

Tonight, I will play all my Ween CDs.

Verbalisms: Women. Hip-Hop. Women In Hip-Hop

What is Verbalisms?

VERBALISMS is an e-publication dedicated to women, hip-hop and women in hip-hop. We represent hip-hop’s forgotten face. Bi-monthly, we will bring you articles, reviews and commentary about women shining their light in hip-hop including emcees, writers, b-girls, DJs and more. We travel underground and mainstream to reveal another side of hip-hop culture. VERBALISMS gives you a look at how women are affected by the climate of the industry specifically and the world in general.

Verbalisms is well designed and lots of smart content. Check them out.

  • Bye Bye Google Ads

We were testing out the Google Ads for the last two months but have decided to take them down.

First of all, the ads weren’t always relevant/interesting. Second of all Google went and added additional Google Search links to it. Third of all, financially it wasn’t doing anything for us.

Ten Days Until Donewaiting.com Concert #3

We’re ten days away until dw3 @ Red-16 featuring Miranda Sound, 84 Nash, The Honey’s, Denovo and The Multi-Purpose Solution. We’re getting excited.

We dropped off free promotional CDs last night @ Used Kids that feature one song from each band. It’s a nice way to get a feel for what’s in store next Saturday.

We’ll be dropping these CDs off in other locations throughout town, so if they run out there, don’t worry, there will be more.

Discussion of the donewaiting.com concert, chapter 3, going on here.

Beth Orton B-Side Album Coming In September

    I am not lying.

Hopefully it won’t be as boring as her last album.

    Denver Post on Matador Records

The article isn’t too insightful, but it’s still a good quick history lesson about Matador Records:

The idea of a label whose CDs you should pick up sight-unheard, just because of the record company behind it, is refreshing to some in a music industry dominated by headlines of major labels literally suing their own fans over downloading and coddled artists creating their own labels and distribution networks. Matador may have a reputation for effectively marketing its latest picks, but it softens the pitch by arguing for artists on their own merits and letting the bands do their own thing when they go into the studio. I love me some Matadoorz.
