A local band opens every Lollapalooza during the tour, and in Columbus OH it was Miranda Sound. We asked Dan Gerken from the band to write a first-hand account of performing at the festival and we’ve posted it over at OH Columbus! It’s a really good look from the outside in. Read it here!

Ladyfest Ohio Wants You!
From Sharon of Frostiva:
Hello all. I am helping with the planning for Ladyfest Ohio. The projected dates for this festival will be for Memorial Day weekend 2004. There is a lot of work to be had and we would love for any fine females who would like to help out to join us. We have meetings every Tuesday at 8pm at Victorian’s Midnight Cafe. The next meeting will be on July 22nd.
Ladyfests have been held all over the world for the past few years. These festivals feature music, art, dance performances, spoken word, and workshops which are created and run by women. These events are open to everyone regardless of sex or gender.

Is Linkin Park’s Lead Singer An Idiot?
I’ll be the first to admit that I own all three Linkin Park albums, but man, lead singer Chester Bennington comes off as some sort of uneducated fool with these quotes regarding Linkin Park not wanting to sell singles online:
“We’re all going to have to adjust,? says Bennington. ?You know what I’m saying? Eventually everything is going to be purchased online. It’s just a matter of how you’re going to do it. You know? Do you sell albums by track or do you sell albums to download for one cost when you go in to download the music? Who knows? It’s not up to me, it’s up to the people to figure out the way they want to do it, and to do it in a way that’s not going to destroy the bands that they love.”
and
“Bands like us that have commercial success by selling records are in a different place than the bands that are in a lower playing field, so it’s hard for us to really understand from our point of view,? Bennington says. ?But we do understand that there’s an issue there, and until everybody kind of figures it out and there’s more education on how to fix it, we’re not really going to run around and preach anything that we don’t know is going to work for certain.” (full story
It’s no so much the fact that they don’t want to sell singles online that comes off bad, but rather the overall grammer.
Let’s make a deal: Chester, you stop talking about digital music and I promise to never write a teen angst filled song. Sound good?

James Iha Joins Perfect Circle for Tour
What the fuck? Okay, read this a few times carefully, via Billboard.com:
Former Smashing Pumpkins guitarist James Iha has joined A Perfect Circle and will be on board for the band’s upcoming U.S. tour, a spokesperson confirms. Iha replaces Troy Van Leeuwen, who left APC to join Queens Of The Stone Age. He does not contribute to APC’s next Virgin album, “Thirteenth Step,” due Sept. 16.
Okay, Troy from A Perfect Circle left to join Queens of the Stone Age? Okay, got it. Also, Paz from A Perfect Circle joined Billy Corgan’s Zwan.
SO NOW James Iha from Smashing Pumpkins has joined A Perfect Circle, possibly temporarily.
That’s more confusing than a Yankees-Mets-Giants three way trade. My brain hurts.

The Simon: What Went Wrong, Liz Phair?
Liz Phair’s crappy new album certainly has spawned a lot of great journalism:
Was being the indie queen really all that bad? I had no idea. Was being written about in universally glowing terms by the normally savage rock press that much of a turn-off? Was being the object of respect and adoration of a select junta of smart, educated, articulate, cynical, demanding, obsessive, cultural ayatollahs more oppressive than enjoyable? Was being hyped so heavily by everyone with a computer and an opinion to publish because you?re so brilliant and insightful and your work so form-shattering and you?re so obviously one of the greatest songwriters ever who has single-handedly changed the genres and will influence legions of lesser songwriters for years, nay, decades to come not what it?s cracked up to be?
