I’ve been telling people this for months but no one wanted to believe ol’ Rob Duffy. So maybe they’ll believe Chip Midnight. R.I.P. Sheila Divine.

Surely, This Will Suck
This ain’t no Moulin Rouge:
Elvis Costello, Sheryl Crow, Vivian Green, Diana Krall, Alanis Morissette, and Robbie Williams will sing and dance to the music of Cole Porter in the MGM big-screen musical (movie) “Just One of Those Things.” (full story)
Maybe it’ll be 5% better than that Sgt. Pepper movie with the Bee Gees.

Moby *IS* The Voodoo Child
Who even knew that Moby was the Voo Doo Child? WTF?
The artist is also reactivating his alter ago Voodoo Child for the first time since 1997. He describes an upcoming album under that name as “a dance record, whereas the last Voodoo Child CD was kind of a melodic/atmospheric record. [The new album] has some melodic/atmospheric elements, but it’s basically a straightforward electronic dance record with some nice old-skool elements, [because] I’m a sentimentalist at heart.” (full story)
Honestly, I like Moby, for the most part. I’m one of the few people in the world that prefer his “Animal Rights” record to “Play,” but that’s just me. I just don’t get the Voodoo Child bit. Smells of Garth Brooks.
By the way, when was the last time you threw “18” (his last album) in the CD player? Thought so.

donewaiting/houston: Target Madonna
David takes no prisoners when he attacks Madonna and every other musician who champion strange causes:
Her new spiritualism–or her fad du jour, however you wish to view it–is something I wish musicians would just avoid making public. When will they realize that no one cares about their quest for inner peace unless it produces a good song? No one cares that they like to spend their precious free time campaigning for or against Greenpeace or PETA or the Green Party or Walden Woods or Ticketmaster or even George Bush (yes, I am sure there are some). (full story)
David has also been giving great weekly roundups of upcoming Houston concerts of note, so if you’re messing with Texas, you better mess with him, too.

Reinforcements: Sell the Kids Joins Our Staff
Wasn’t life easier when people used names like “Bill” or “Harold?”
Anyway, the bottom line is that I can’t cover the entire world of music on my own while still writing the Columbus music column and all the other things associated with the site.
So we’re bringing in the cavalry. His name is Sell the Kids and he’s a great guy, straight outta Texas. He’ll be posting up music news and notes along with the same commentary you’ve come to know and expect out of donewaiting.com.
STK also runs a website called sell the kids. Confused yet? Me too. I actually don’t even know his real first name.
Please welcome him with open arms. I’m looking forward to his writing!

The Similarities Between Rabidly Obsessed Radiohead Fans and Rabidly Obsessed Star Wars Fans, Part 1
Audrey wrote this over at Melody Nelson:
Hahaha! wait, this isn’t funny! people are already lining up at the beacon theater to buy Radiohead tickets. Tickets go onsale on saturday at 12pm. I repeat: not funny.
It got me to thinking. Radiohead fans are the musical equivalent of Star Wars fans!
They’re standing in line for days to get tickets, just like Star Wars geeks fans. While Star Wars fans would kill someone to get their hand on the Episode I script, Radiohead fans went loopy over leaked tracks. Whenever people heard a rumor about George Lucas burping, they’d write about it … just like they do about Thom Yorke!
I don’t know why anyone hasn’t put these two things together before!
(full disclosure: i was one of those star wars geeks)

You can watch the video in Real Video Glory here.
It’s made up of mostly live footage of the band and it makes me want to see them live again right this very second.
