donewaiting/durst watch: Charlesworth Changes Name to Ol’ Dirty Bastard

This is a historical moment in Durst Watchology. After ODB changed his name to Dirt McGirt, Charlesworth decided to steal the ODB name before anyone else.

Not sure if he’s changed his AIM/e-mail addresses, though.

donewaiting/atomic ned: Drinking Beers With Idlewild

Chip Midnight returns with the second part of his Idlewild review. Check it out. What you may not know is that once Chip started to talk to the band after the show they invited him to hang out and have some drinks. As you can imagine, Chip was in heaven.

Long Islanders Throw Stuff at Pearl Jam Concert

Looks like some people at Pearl Jam’s Long Island show didn’t like it when Eddie Vedder struck up the anti-Bush speech:

A few people threw things, and the band played two more songs, ending with a cover of Neil Young’s “Rockin’ in the Free World.” As the song faded out, Mr. Vedder reprised the crowd’s chant “U.S.A.! U.S.A.!” sounding more defiant than conciliatory. Then he threw down the microphone and walked off. (full story)

I could understand disagreeing with Eddie, but throwing things is pretty weak. I know I’m one of those people who obsess over every detail about bands I love, so I know Pearl Jam’s political views. However, I would think that even a casual fan is aware of the opinions of the band, and if you’re against them, STAY HOME! Don’t throw things.

Long Island gets all Fs on their report card this month.

Back from Cleveland

Alright, I’m back from my two night visit from Cleveland to see Ted Leo on Thursday and Yeah Yeah Yeahs last night.

Lots of rock happened. Expect a full length review of Ted Leo by Areila soon, and then a review of YYY by me not so soon. One thing I’ll say though: Ted Leo in concert is a must see.

Impersonate Creed — Get Arrested

I LOVE THIS:

A man in Clearwater, Florida has been arrested for theft, committed while posing as Creed guitarist Mark Tremonti. Kevin Eckenrod is being held on $20,000 bail for credit card theft while impersonating Tremonti. He also allegedly used his resemblance to Tremonti to get free drinks and a place to stay. (full story)

You have to wonder if the guy was driven insane because everyone kept telling him that he looked like a dude from Creed. I mean, was this guy “Johnny Do Good” until he found out he looked like someone famous and then just lost his shit?

Seriously, do I really need a record player?

Message board users be saying yes.

MP3 Of the Day: Arab Strap’s “Who Named the Days”

I don’t have the new Arab Strap album, but Brother Stephen loves it. If that recommendation ain’t good enough for you, then bugger off.

Anyway, download the MP3 here. Learn more about the band here. Buy the album there.

Quote of the Day: 50 Cent

“I gotta constantly change things up a bit, keep it creative. That’s what makes me number one. I’m four times platinum baby and I keep it coming. More music, more videos, more access to me.”

donewaiting/england: Gene

Steve Miller has a new column on his donewaiting.com experience, England Made Me, about a band that he loved through most of the 90s, Gene. Lately, though, Steve thinks he might need to end his love affair.

Gene, in 1995, sailed in on the coat-tails of the likes of Blur and Oasis, and generated a lot of press because they sounded a little like the Smiths, and their singer could be relied upon for an arsey quote. Despite a devoted fan-base and the odd flirtation with fame, they never managed to score that elusive crossover hit, and I suspect that, to many, they’re little more than a faint memory. It’s never easy to leave a favorite.
