MP3 Of the Day: Stepford Five’s “Are You Dreaming”

The Stepford Five is one of my favorite Columbus OH bands, and they just released a new EP, “Six.” Upgrade your life by downloading an MP3 from the album, Are You Dreaming. Your best bet is to RIGHT CLICK the link and SAVE AS. But who am I to run your life?

After you listen to this song, though, the melodies will probably run your life for the next 2-6 days.

(Will I really do an MP3 each day? I don’t know. Let’s see how it goes.)

Yeah Yeah Yeahs

Photo

Today the Yeah Yeah Yeahs released their full length album, Fever to Tell and I’m very happy about it.

I’m going to see them Friday night in Cleveland with my sweetheart and I’m really excited. The night before I’m going to see Ted Leo and the night after I’m going to see Denovo. Does it get much more rock than that?

donewaiting/nyc: Play+Record

Stephen Mejias, donewaiting.com writer, has begun to chronicle the recording process of his new album with his band, The Multi Purpose Solution. The fun thing about this record is that the magazine that Stephen writes for, Stereophile, will be putting out the album. Read about it.

Zak Sally Leaves Low

Bye bye!

Minneapolis bassist, comic book artist, and City Pages contributor Zak Sally has left Low, according to the band. “It was never necessarily an artistic difference, and we weren’t necessarily fighting, he just didn’t want to do this forever,” says guitarist Alan Sparhawk. (full story)

You know, it’s been awhile since a big band has broken up completely. I think we’re about due.

Fire at the Bottom of the Hill

When I lived in San Francisco Bottom of the Hill was my favorite venue.

On Monday night there was a fire in the apartment next door and above the Bottom Of The Hill. While the club only suffered minimal water damage, it will have to remain closed for the next few days while inspectors investigate the situation and assess damage. At this point we expect to be able to be open again on Friday May 2nd. We will post more information as it becomes available to us. (link)

Hope it works out for them.

Additional Pearl Jam Shows Announced

Additional shows have been added on July 6 in Camden, NJ and on July 12th in Hershey, PA. Tickets are on sale May 3 at 10am.

Apple Apple Apple

Everyone is going bonkers over the Apple announcements yesterday. PaidContent.org has a lot of stories all put together in a nice package. Go. Also, my good friend Soldier Ant has a great perspective of the Apple store from a user’s point of view.

New MTV2 Programming Announced

Billboard has a great article listing all the new MTV2 programs scheduled to air. Here’s a breakdown of what’s coming soon and then my comments, in italics.

“Subterranean,” a show focusing on new music from around the world. The series premieres May 9 with a guest appearance by the Yeah Yeah Yeahs. The show’s regular time slot will be late Fridays/early Saturdays at midnight ET/PT. The program will also have a monthly spin-off for British acts, “Subterranean UK,” beginning May 11 at 1 a.m. ET/PT.

Nothing says international more than New York’s very own Yeah Yeah Yeahs. This show will be the first to get cancelled.

The revival of hard rock/heavy metal series “Headbangers Ball,” which originally ran on MTV from 1987 through 1994. MTV2’s new version will launch May 10 with Metallica playing guest host, and will be seen Saturdays at 10 p.m. ET/PT.

Great, this way I can see Mudvayne, Limp Bizkit, and Slipknot videos back to back. This show will suck yet be successful.

“Sucker Free Sundays,” an eight-hour block of R&B/hip-hop programming that will begin airing May 11 at noon ET/PT. A different artist will host each week, with 50 Cent, Ludacris, and Busta Rhymes already lined-up. The time slot will include the new series “Spoke N’Heard,” focusing on what MTV2 calls “the new wave of hip-hop and soul videos from artists who are pushing the boundaries of the genre.”

By “new wave of hip hop” I hope MTV2 is not referring to 50 Cent, but instead someone like Aesop Rock. Could be good, will probably suck.

“Monster Mix,” a DJ-inspired show that mixes together several music videos to create a unique visual experience. The series begins with a special, “The Remix Saved My Life,” premiering May 24 at 1 p.m. ET/PT.

Will these be as successful as AMP? You remember AMP, don’t you? The MTV show that did electronica but blended all the videos blah blah blah. This is the second show of the new crop to get cancelled.

Airing at times to be determined will be “Track 2,” a show which will have artists commenting on music videos as the videos play; “Short Attention Span Video Show,” which plays 30 videos in 30 minutes; and “Nose Dive,” a series examining the career decline of certain artists.

Track 2: I can’t wait to hear what Mariah Carey has to say about the latest Linkin Park video. It will RULE! As for “Short Attention Span,” isn’t that what they do already on the top 20 countdowns and TRL?

Disappointing from top to bottom.
