Chip Midnight has written part one of his extensive review of last week’s Idlewild show in Columbus OH. A taste:

Though the show lasted only an hour, I felt spent. I could just feel rays of life shooting out of my body throughout the set, my head filled with daydreams of being able to write songs the way Roddy does, to play guitar the way Rod and Allen do. I fantasized about being the soundman for the band and getting to hear the band every night while getting paid to do so, of getting to watch the songs come to life over and over again, each time with a renewed spirit and energy.

It’s true. Hopefully the hype won’t crush the album before it’s released, because this one is gonna be a biggie.

Today I’m going to write about bands that have fallen off the face of the planet but are somehow making news lately.

Examples: Sinead O’Connor retiring, Jane’s Addiction signing to a new label.

Tricky is coming back with a new album. It’s his most personal ever!

Does anyone else besides me remember when his last record came out a few years back (it had all those lame guest stars), Tricky was saying that he wanted to be on VH1 and MTV and wanted radio stations around the world play his music?

Too bad that last album was, as Steve Miller might say, bollocks.

Yeah, he’s one of the dudes from N’SYNC. He’s putting out a solo album of parody songs a la Weird Al-style. Excuse me for a sec: HAHAHAHAHAHAHAHAAHAHAHA.

Styx are still touring? What the BLEEEP? Yes, it’s true. But you won’t see them in Toronto because they cancelled their show.

Those old Jane’s albums were really great. But did anyone buy the Dave Navarro or Perry Farrel solo records? OOOOOOOOOFA.

Well, on the eve of their shitty Lollapalooza reunion, the band has announced they’ve signed to a new label.

Begin all of your “but I thought she already retired from music five years ago” jokes now.

I can’t wait to see her on her “back from retirement tour” in 2004.
