AIM Conversation Between Me and a Friend Regarding the Huge Ass Field Day Festival

Said between me and “Randy” via AIM regarding Field Day Festival:

randy: sigur ros and radiohead are sure to fuck all night!
duffy: i hear you gotta pay extra to watch that
randy: would you join in?
duffy: do i get an autograph?

The AIM names have been changed to protect the guilty.

On the Eve of Easter, Evanescence Says Adios to Jesus

Just like the betrayal of Judas to Christ, Evanescence turns their back on Jesus:

Provident Music Distribution, the Christian distribution arm of Zomba, says it will no longer handle Wind-Up Records act Evanescence for the Christian retail market, Billboard Bulletin reports. The move follows published reports in which the band used profanity and made clear that it does not want to be known as a Christian act. (full story)

If you’re like me, you probably didn’t even know Evanescence was a Christian band.

NYC Music Blogs, part 1

Out here in the world of donewaiting.com, we have a New York/New Jersey music column called Bridges and Tunnels by musician Stephen Mejias. He does a fine fine job.

However, as we might suspect, there are other people in NY writing about music. There’s three blogs I recently found and really like. A lot. Please, show them your linkage love:

  • Product Shop NYC: Jim gets the music scoops fast. Good calendar of shows, etc.
  • The Modern Age Music news, art, photos. Not a Strokes fan site, you twit.
  • Melody Nelson Music news, photos, record release dates, and a comment section I’m slowly becoming addicted to.

So there you go. After you show Bridges and Tunnels your love, give some of these your love as well. You must have enough to go around, don’t you?

  • Entire Pete Yorn Album Being Streamed

If you want, you can listen to the entire new Pete Yorn album here via Real Audio. So far so good. I really liked the first one, so I have big expectations for the new record.

And if you don’t like Pete because of his good looks, you really need to get over yourself.

    Gawker Reviews Fischerspooner

Gawker, one of my favorite NYC gossip sites, went to a recent Fischerspooner concert and have now posted their review. A taste:

Before Wednesday, I had never seen the band perform, but I was already sick of them thanks to near-daily mentions in the Village Voice and overexposure to hipster infestations in Williamsburg that invariably entailed running into someone who would induce small fits of white-hot rage by beginning sentences with “my friend is, like, friends with [Fischerspooner frontman] Casey Spooner, and, like…” (full review)

The rest of the review is a real enjoyable read, so make with the clicky. And then check out the rest of the site.

    Who Says Girls Don’t Rock?

    Shut yo’ mouth!

The Thing About Me and Radiohead

I gotta be honest: I’m not as excited about Radiohead like I used to be.

    That’s all. For now.

Live Review: Beth Orton in Portsmouth

I don’t even know where Portsmouth is, but since the review was written by donewaiting.com’s very own Steve Miller, I’ll assume it’s from out there in Englandland.

Anyway, here’s a taste of his touching review:

But I still feel strangely disconnected. Every time the show threatens to take off, with Stolen Car, or Someone?s Daughter, it comes crashing back down to earth again with Pass In Time or Blood Red River, and if it?s not that, Beth?s grounding us in reality by telling a crap joke, or dedicating a song to Mother?s Day, or singing Happy Birthday to somebody in the front row. (full review)

I’ve seen Beth before and she’s good live, not great. I think I’ll stick with her first two albums instead of the live event, thanks.
