Yo La Tengo Tuesday

Ahh, yes. Another Tuesday, another great album to be released unto the world. The album in question is Yo La Tengo‘s “Summer Sun.”

I’ve been listening to it for some time now, and have really been enjoying it. For whatever reason, I always seem to equate different YLT albums with weather seasons or conditions. “And Then Nothing Turned Itself Inside Out” was a winter record, “Painful” was autumn, “I Can Hear the Heart Beating as One” was a spring/early summer album.

Summer Sun,” however, is a rainy day record. Somewhat quiet, somewhat lazy, but altogether beautiful.

I’m eager to see the band live again. They come through my town on Thursday. The last time I saw them was in November 2002 as part of their 11-show Hannukah run in Hoboken. The wait has been too long.

BONUS: Tuesday, April 8th, from 1-2 pm EDT, Ira will be doing a live chat on Washington Post.com. You can go there RIGHT NOW and ask a question. Make it happen.

The Thing About this Radiohead Leak

Chip Midnight gives the world his opinion about the whole Radiohead leaked-MP3 situation on his donewaiting.com column, Atomic Ned. Here’s a small taste:

My question is, HOW DID THIS LEAK? The fact of the matter is that somebody that Radiohead trusted, either somebody closely affiliated with the band or somebody that works at the studio, leaked the material. Those are the only people that could have had access to the tracks, right? It may have started off innocently ? drummer Phil passes a demo CD off to his cousin to get his opinions of the work. The cousin makes a copy of the CD-R and passes it on to a co-worker. The co-worker, excited that he has the CD, makes it available for downloading. (full story)

I’m one of the people who have the evil MP3s in question, and they’re pretty good. Will I buy the record when it comes out? Yes. But do I own a Linkin Park t-shirt? Yes. Take my advice for what it’s worth.

Donewaiting.com Occupies Chicago With NEW Music Column! No Casualties!

You knew it was gonna happen, didn’t you? You felt it in your heart and in your soul. You knew that, soon, very soon, donewaiting.com would launch a column out of Chicago.

It has happened.

We’re happy to announce the latest addition to the donewaiting.com quilt of local columnists, Tankboy, and his Chicago scenario: Lost in Guyville.

So Tankboy e-mails me one day and says “Hey, you’vegot all these new columns in different cities, why aren’t you showing Chicago any love?” And before you could say “Deep Dish,” we had our lawyers sign the contracts and ta-da! He’s writing for the site.

Tankboy comes with a lot of knowledge of the Chicago scene, so it’s going to be great to have him onboard with us. We’re really excited about this column. Please, make with the clicky.

More Details About that New York Music Festival of Delight and Wonder

Jason at Product Shop has scooped the line-up to the two day Field Day Festival happening on Long Island in June. HOLY FUCK.

Bands scheduled to play include (and are not limited to): The Strokes, Radiohead, Belle and Sebastian, Sleater-Kinney, Beastie Boys, and many more. Many more.

To find out exactly what bands are playing what night, you gotta go to Jason’s site. NOW. The line-up is still being considered uncomfirmed, though.

Either he is the new Matt Drudge of music writing or it’s a lie, because no one else is writing about it. Either way I want to believe. I will believe.

Our Very Own Steve Miller Shares His Love

Steve Miller checking in with a live review of a secret UK Love show he attended last week:

You wouldn’t think that a 57 year old fella, wearing dark glasses, a bandana, and a black stetson could somehow be cool, but he manages it. It’s apparent from the minute the band set foot on the stage that this gig is going to be raw, riotous, rock’n’ roll, and the apparent early disposal of the setlist and the boisterous nature of the crowd helps to set the tone. (full story)

Since Steve is from the UK I was hoping for this word to use the word “geezers”, but sadly it did not.

Yo La Tengo Covers EVERYONE

Every year, Yo La Tengo do an all-request show to raise money for NY/NJ radio station WFMU. So what typically happens is people call in and ask the band to play a cover. Even if the band doesn’t know the lyrics or the music, they do it, often to great result.

This website has all 28 songs they did this year in MP3 format. Download away, mates.

Highlights include: Happiness is a Warm Gun – The Beatles /// Werewolves of London – Warren Zevon /// Sympathy for the Devil – The Rolling Stones and so much much more.

John Mayer and Counting Crows Touring Together

Truth. Although my dislike of John Mayer trumps my like of Counting Crows, so I’ll be sitting this one out.

And Who Will Be Next Week’s Musical Guest on SNL?

Zwan, you silly goose.

For whatever reason, this really excites me more than normal.
