I was really hoping Michael Moore, “Spirited Away” and Eminem would win awards, and by golly, they did.

New Sigur Ros Video
Speaking of Sigur Ros, you can now watch their new video for “Untitled #1.” Like Warren Ellis said, it’s both brilliant and heartbreaking. I don’t even know if I can watch it a second time or listen to the song the same ever again.

Sigur Ros vs. Godspeed! You Black! Emperor!
Sigur Ros and GYBE are hitting the peaceful town in Cleveland within the same week. An article in Cleveland Scene sums it up quite nicely in a boxing-like Tale of the Tape.
Some highlights:
Appropriate venue for listening
GYBE: Prison.
SR: That magical Teletubbies fairy land where the sun’s, like, this baby’s face.Degree of pretension
GYBE: Jesus, dude, it’s orchestral rock, not Black Flag. Ideologically, band constantly combats age-old “We are fiercely anti-capitalist but must employ capitalism to sell records and thus fund our coffee-fueled anti-capitalist rants” self-loathing.
SR: Astronomical. No real album title, no song titles, no lyrics. A conceptual art-damaged mind fuck on par with Kangaroo Jack. (full story)
The rest of the article is worth your reading time as well. Go.

Zack de la Rocha Returns With March of Death

If you’ve read this site for awhile you know of my disappointment with Audioslave and my constant waiting for Zack de la Rocha’s return to music. We need him. We’ve waited.
Zack has returned!!!!!!!
And this time he’s brought DJ Shadow with him for his war protest song, March of Death. You can download it here.
It’s everything you’d want it to be. If you thought Beastie Boys song was weak, don’t worry. This song is like a knife.
Some lyrics:
what is a flag but a shroud out loud
and outside my window is a faceless crowd
’cause a cowering child just took her last break
one snare in the march of death
More lyrics:
here it comes the sound of terror from above
he flex his Texas twisted tongue
the poor lined up to kill in desert slums
for oil that burn beneath the desert sun
now we spit flame to flip this game
we are his targets taking aim
we’re the targets taking aim
all his targets are taking aim
This is a welcome return.

O’ Cracker Where Art Thou Release Date Set For May 6
There can never be enough Cracker in this world:
The album consists of live in the studio re-interpretations of classic, and not so classic, Cracker tracks – as opposed to Cracker Jacks, which are minions of dentists. Cracker’s David Lowery and Johnny Hickman sing, and occasionally play an instrument or two, while the Colorado based Leftover Salmon provide the music. (full story)
Just keep it coming, please.

Live Review: Throwing Muses in England
Our man with the UK plan, Steve Miller, offers up a live review of last night’s Throwing Muses concert in his donewaiting.com column, England Made Me:
Kristin?s singing Vicky?s Box from the Throwing Muses? first album and, in common with much of their oeuvre, halfway through it flips into a completely different song. The audience know where we?re going, the anticipation is tangible; the Astoria feels like it?s going to burst. Three minutes into the song, and Kristin sings ?Welcome Home?. The third time she sings it, or more accurately, screams it, is the cue for release. The tempo shifts up several dozen gears, the volume likewise and the audience go mental, switching from rapt attention to rabid moshpit as quickly as the band changed tack. (full review)
He also gives up the goods regarding a new band, Electrelane.
