New Radiohead

….is coming in June.

DV8

I obsess over donewaiting.com stats every morning, seeing how page views were, what hours were our busiest, where people came from, that sort of thing. Recently, I saw some traffic coming from another music website, Deviated Septum by Kevin Keenan. It’s got a lot of good music information and news, and I think it’s worth your time.

Without their site, would I have ever learned that the lyrics for the song “The Union Forever” by The White Stripes seem to be almost entirely lifted from Orson Welles’ cinematic masterpiece Citizen Kane?

I don’t know. At any rate, make with the click.

Quasi, Call and Response MP3s Available

Quasi posted two Peel Sessions online in MP3 format. Go get ’em, tiger.

Also: Call and Response posted up FIVE MP3s on their site here. It seems like they’re songs that will be on their upcoming album.

Atomic Ned Working It

Chip has posted a new entry on his donewaiting.com column, Atomic Ned, and it’s a goodie. Read the latest In My Ear where The Midnighter posts his thoughts on Damone, American Hi-Fi, U.D.O and Metallica. Go go go!

Also, while you’re at it, Chip posted up some great information about ex-Weezer Matt Sharpe (The Rentals) releasing 24 MP3’s on his official website. You can read about that one here.

Atomic Ned is your friend. Please never forget that.

Listen: New Linkin Park Single “Somewhere”

Pretty good, I’d say. This album is going to be big.

Photo Essay: Grammy 2003 Thoughts

As far as last night’s Grammys go, here is a photo essay I’ve created entitled “How I Felt While I Watched the 2003 Grammys”. The photos are a graphical representation of how I felt inside my brain:

“Simon and Garfunkel reunion and Dustin Hoffman in the first five minutes? Oh. God. No.”

“Robin Williams doing more bad comedy? Twice in one night? Please. Make. Stop.”

“Norah Jones wins again? Must. End. Life.”

But in the end, when all was said and done, me and Stan Lee have one final thing to say to the Grammys…

2003 Grammy Talkback

Here is where you go to post your reviews, opinions and comments about this year’s Grammy Awards.

Who cares what Joan Rivers has to say? I want to know what you think.

Moby Responds to Potential Grammy Censorship

On Moby‘s website today he responded to the potential threat of CBS censoring musicians who speak out againt the war:

one of the things that has made the history of popular music so interesting and dynamic is the tradition of political activism among musicians. the most remarkable musicians of the last 40 years have been people who’ve been outspoken about a wide range of social and political issues. off the top of my head i think of john lennon, bob dylan, cat stevens, the clash, the sex pistols, u2, public enemy, rage against the machine, the beastie boys, and marvin gaye, to name a few. to have an unscripted television broadcast ostensibly based around the best and brightest in popular music (i know, i’ve seen the grammy nominees…’best and brightest’ is me using some pretty serious poetic license…) and then restrict the musicians freedom of speech is loathsome. (full entry)

I can’t wait for Norah Jones’ fiery political protest. Can’t. Wait.

Trent Reznor Responds to Cash “Hurt” Video

Here’s what Trent Reznor had to say about Johnny Cash’s video for his cover of the Nine Inch Nails’ song, “Hurt”:

“We were in the studio, getting ready to work — and I popped it in,” Reznor says. “By the end I was really on the verge of tears. I’m working with Zach de la Rocha, and I told him to take a look. At the end of it, there was just dead silence. There was, like, this moist clearing of our throats and then, ‘Uh, OK, let’s get some coffee.'” (full story)

According to the Judge Report, CBS execs are scared as a schoolgirl about musicians protesting the war at the Grammys Sunday:

Word has reached network suites how one star is allegedly planning a dramatic anti-war gesture. “I would hope the artists will remember they are on stage because of their music,” a top CBS source told the DRUDGE REPORT Friday morning.

It’s funny, right, because music is expression and they’re worried that the artists are going to express themselves.

Also from the Judge Report: “The CBS executive warned microphones may be unplugged on Sunday night if live performances turn political. ”

Whatever the outcome, this has actually made me interested in the Grammys for the first time in five years my life.
