New White Stripes Album Coming Earlier Than Expected

Because of all you naughty hackzors, the new White Stripes album will be coming out two weeks earlier than expected. Originally scheduled for 4/15, the album is now coming out 4/1. More details here.

I heard a rumor that the White Stripes didn’t want to compete with the new Stepford Five EP, scheduled to hit steets 4/15.

Believe what you will.

Longwave

If you head on over to Longwave‘s site, you’ll see they’ve put up a new video and a few live acoustic tracks, among other things. The acoustics are sweet as a sunflower.

I was turned on to Longwave via Chip Midnight’s donewaiting.com column, Atomic Ned, where he said the new album was “already guaranteed to make my ?Best of 2003? list.” And you know, it may very well make mine, too.

Live Review Monday! Tim Easton in Columbus

I just posted my review of the Tim Easton concert last Friday @ Little Brother’s. Check it out.

I’m calling today Live Review Monday. Are you afraid of my scary talent at naming things?

Raveonettes Live Review in EMM

donewaiting.com’s very own Steve Miller gives us a great live review of a Raveonettes concert out there in the merry ol’ UK:

Although it isn?t really an album and I know its original Stateside release was in 2002, “Whip It On” is my favourite album of the year with its mix of 50s rock iconography and riffage sounding like the surf band from your darkest nightmares, and at 28 minutes short, it leaves you wanting more. Much more. On Sunday night they played the Freebutt in Brighton, a venue that is little more than a pub with a stage and one where, if 150 people are inside, it?s probably over capacity. It?s the kind of venue where you can see and feel the sweat on the ceiling, a venue where you can smell what brand of cigarette the singer is smoking, and a venue where, even if you?re standing at the back you probably still get a great view. Kind of makes you wish you were across the Atlantic, doesn’t it?

Dave Matthews DVD Boxed Set

Feed your DMB obsessions:

The Dave Matthews Band intends to release a DVD boxed set of concert footage from shows in 2002. Three shows at the Gorge Amphitheatre in George, Washington, were recorded last fall for the DVD set, which will be followed by a long-form video that will play in theaters, according to United Entertainment Media’s Creative Planet Communities reports. Snow Snow Snow Snow Snow

With all of the snow that is hitting my town, my mind started to think about that rapper/reggae artist of yesteryear, Snow. You know, he had that song “Informer” awhile back.

Informer you no say daddy me Snow me I’ll go blame
A licky boom boom down
Detective mon said daddy me Snow me stab someone down the lane
A licky Boom Boom Down.

Yeah, now you remember.

Anyway, I was surprised to find out that this guy is still around. In fact, he was nominated for a Juno Award (Canada’s Grammys) for best Reggae album. Who would’ve known?!

I was even surprised to see there’s a website out there that is still following this guy’s career and the news section is really complete. WTF?

The world is a strange strange place.

Old People Love Norah Jones

Ahh, finally! Now I get it. I don’t like Norah Jones because I am not old. Or so says The New York Times:

Ms. Jones is just 23; most of her fans are at least a decade older. For months her songs have haunted the airwaves of adult-oriented radio; on the strength of constant touring, television appearances and heavy rotation in coffee shops, cocktail parties and other places where grown-ups gather, “Come Away With Me” has turned into the music industry surprise of the year: a modest record, released with little fanfare on a jazz label, that became a blockbuster. NME Gets Facelift

NME.com‘s top page went through a bit of a redesign.

Same over the top content, though.

Hiphopanonymous.net Gets it Right

Maybe because I overloaded myself with rock this past week that I’m turning to my other friend, hip hop, for the weekend updates.

Awhile back I put out a call looking for someone to write a hip hop blog, a few people wrote back, but they were more of the curious types. Not what I was looking for (and I promise I’ll write back to all of you soon). I wanted someone who lived, breathed, and swam in hip hop, both the music and the culture.

I’m still waiting for that person to contact me.

Until then, I’m going to be spending a lot of time on Hip Hop Anonymous. They’re reporting hip hop news and offering their opinions about what’s going on. This is not just a site that lists links: they’re taking what’s being reporting, digesting it, and offering their opinions. And that’s what matters. These guys obviously love the music, and that might be the most important point of all.

HipHopAnonymous.net is an attempt to embrace hip-hop culture by hunting down what is good and what is ridiculous. It is not only a supplement for listeners of the Hip Hop Anonymous radio show, but also a resource for any gelastic surfers looking for a different perspective on hip-hop. This is where mediocrity is pointed out to be made fun of, yet you’ll find that our finger is normally pointed at us.

Here’s a few things I learned from them that I never knew before:

  • Berklee College of Music: Get a Turntable Education
  • DMX to Retire

There’s a lot more, but I’ll let you go to their site to dig through it all. I’m adding this site to my bookmarks, and you should do the same.
