Mystery and Misery

Mystery and Misery, one of my favorite music blogs, appears to be back in action. Make with the clicky.

Back

Spent the weekend in NYC and NJ checking out my sister’s new apartment in the East Village. It’s nice, and no you’re not invited.

I’m getting through my emails, slowly.

Blind Melon to Reunite with New Singer?

melon.jpg
(pictured l to r: Brad Smith (bass), Travis Warren (vocals), Christopher Thorn (guitar), Rogers Stevens (guitar), Glen Graham (drums))

This photo, named melon.jpg, was sent to the administrator of the official Blind Melon message board today by Rogers Stevens with a cryptic poem:

“In the garden, growth has it seasons.
First comes spring and summer,
but then we have fall and winter.
And then we get spring and summer again.
Yes, there will be growth in the spring!”

-Chauncy Gardener , “Being There”

Could Blind Melon be reforming with a new singer? Could this new singer be Travis Warren of Rain Fur Rent? If I was a betting man, I’d answer HELL YES to both of these questions. But, we’ll have to wait and see.

Stay tuned ….

And check out this post on the Blind Melon message board.

You can order the last WOXY t-shirt ever right here before September 15.

Arab Strap Breaking Up

Yes, it’s the end for Arab Strap. After ten years, six studio albums, three live albums and all manner of everything else, we’ve decided the story should come to a close. There’s no animosity, no drama, we simply feel we’ve run our course and The Last Romance seems to us the most obvious and logical final act of the Arab Strap studio adventure. Everybody likes a happy ending!

We will, of course, be celebrating. Our anniversary compilation, “Ten Years Of Tears” will be released this October/November and we are planning what will be our Farewell Tour (which sounds kind of cool) around the release in the UK and Europe (we’ll post the dates over the weekend). We hope you’ll be able to join us, but if you can’t make it then let us take this opportunity to thank you for listening.
It is midnight on the 8th of September 2006 and I have just opened a beer. Cheers.

Sordid Sentinels!

Wowee Zowee indeed!

Just like they did with Slanted & Enchanted and Crooked Rain, Crooked Rain, the crackerjack staff at Matador Records have plans to issue a wholly remastered and expanded edition of Pavement‘s 1995 album Wowee Zowee. Due November 7, details are still few and far between on what additional recordings are to be appended to the album’s original running order. It’s rumored, however, that this deluxe reissue will include a full-length concert from 1995, alternate takes of many of the songs and up to 20 (!!!) different covers by artist Steve Keene, the man responsible for the album’s original art.

Keep checking here for updates as the release draws near.
