Jenny Lewis – Acid Tongue

MP3: Acid Tongue

Jenny Lewis‘ first solo album, Rabbit Fur Coat, was my favorite that year. This first song release is great, and I can’t wait to hear the whole thing. If things work out the way I hope, we’ll be seeing her live in late October in Seattle during my honeymoon.

You know, as much as I love Jenny’s solo stuff, everything by Rilo Kiley I find to be just OK. Am I the only person that feels this way? Or maybe you feel opposite….

Seconded. It’s shocking how much I love her solo country/folk and how much I can’t stand anything Rilo Kiley. The same talent in a different context/style and…just wow. The same “too cute” lyrics that grated in Rilo Kiley sound pitch perfect in a country song.

  2. I liked Rilo up to and including More Adventurous. I think I listened to Under the Blacklight one time. When Rabbit Fur Coat came out, I figured it was only a matter of time before she ditched the band, but they still haven’t been officially ditched.

  3. i love her solo stuff, and, taking rilo kiley’s entire catalog into consideration, i’m a fan of a substantial amount of it (a few songs here and there are meh). but no one is perfect, right? i downloaded the newly released pierre de reeder solo album a few weeks ago and i dig it too. really, you can’t get much better than that. unless you’re wilco.

  4. Jenny Lewis has opened up more- been more ambitious with different genres. That experimentation shows on ‘Under the Blacklight.’ Jenny’s lyrics still shine. I agree that a break up is looming soon, but I think the band has better cohesiveness than her solo efforts.

  5. I have heard the whole thing and I am not too crazy about the new album- and neither is my husband who loved her first solo effort.
