Tonight in Columbus: Akron/Family

MP3: Akron/Family – Silly Bears

I caught Akron/Family last time they came to the Wexner Center in 2007, and while I can’t say I come back to the band’s albums constantly, the show left enough of an impression on me that I had to make sure I didn’t miss tonight’s concert. Last time through, there was all sorts of audience participation, lots of on- and off-stage dancing and musical moments ranging from pin-drop quiet to absolute cacophony. I’ve also been digging the songs and the full-album flow of the band’s new record, S/T II: The Cosmic Birth And Journey Of Shinju TNT.

Be warned, though: The strong hippie contingent in Akron/Family’s fan base probably means you’ll have to endure a few patchouli-scented hula-hoopers or interpretive dancers. Last time some girl played with a shiny red ball during the entire show.

Tickets $13 here. Delicate Steve opens the Wex show at 9pm in the Performance Space.
