M1 of Dead Prez pledging to read Michelle Alexander’s book The New Jim Crow
OSU Law Professor Michelle Alexander’s book The New Jim Crow was in the air this week.
In this week’s Other Paper, Rahim Ewin and Rico Scott of Money and Memories Entertainment discussed their mission to hip Militant Rap Group Dead Prez to Alexander’s book. And they succeeded.
On Wednesday, Bell Hooks urged her audience at Ohio State to read Alexender’s critique of the Prison Industry.

DC club closed after death
In light of the comments over in the message board about aggressive bouncers at this past weekend’s Guided By Voices show, this jumped out at me when I saw that the UK’s Blood Red Shoes show in Washington DC is canceled.

The Washington Post is reporting that the club’s co-owner and four employees are being charged in the beating death of somebody who threw a rock through the front window of the club after being denied entry.
For now, all shows at the club have been canceled. More as details emerge.
