Sony Launches Label for Gay Musicians

The music division of Sony has announced a plan to form a sub-label, entitled “Music with a Twist”, featuring a lineup exclusively compiled of gay and lesbian recording artists. The brand will encompass all genres and will not exclude opportunities to profit by synergizing with acts of straight musicians. The label will be headed by LOGO network founder Matt Farber, a long time veteran (scroll down) of the music and entertainment industry at Arista and then MTV. Mr. Farber’s business model will be to not only market towards gays, but also towards that group he refers to as “gay-adjacent”. (full story)

Pitchfork unwittingly disses Pitchfork.

Here is my favorite line from Pitchfork’s review of the new Morningwood disc:

The reality is, cutting a decent record takes more than a kooky stageshow and an insatiable urge to embarrass yourself. It also takes more than handclaps, call-and-response vocals, and dumb cheerleader cadences.
(full review)

Wait, doesn’t that totally describe that Clap Your Hands Say Blah record they were all creaming about?

Personally I dig the new Morningwood disc, but then again I have nothing against music being fun.

The W.A.N.D.

The flamingest Flaming Lip himself

Yesterday, the world heard the first little bit of the upcoming Flaming Lips album At War With the Mystics via the way ahead of schedule teaser single “The W.A.N.D.” Have you heard it yet? If not, get thee now to iTunes, Rhapsody, Yahoo! Music or a number of other fine digital music retailers and jump on that shit like a hobo would a Quarter Pounder.

(If you want to go totally hobo, we hear there are ways of finding the song without dropping a dime… but that’ll be our little secret, okay?)
