Action Bronson Signs To Vice/Warner Brothers?

Q-Boro’s latest rapping heartthrob Action Bronson twittered that he recently signed to Vice/Warner Brothers Records. I thoroughly enjoyed Bronson’s mixtape with Party Supplies Blue Chips  on Fool’s Gold. So watch the video below for Hooker’s at The Point off that tape and imagine what wonderful things could occur in the future now that he is down with Vice.

Bronson also twittered back and forth with a few Odd Future members so it looks like he has some cooking with OF as well.

Interview: Atlas Genius; performing at CD102.5’s Summerfest on Saturday

Who says radio is dead? Certainly not the Australian band Atlas Genius whose “Trojans” has been one of the earwig songs of the summer, receiving massive airplay on both commercial radio stations like CD102.5 – who thinks highly enough of the band that they invited them to play this year’s sold-out Summerfest show on Saturday at the LC – and satellite radio stations such as Sirius XM’s Alt-Nation.

Here’s the thing, to date, Atlas Genius has released only a 3-song EP, Through the Glass, but with the success of “Trojans”, the band is taking advantage of the buzz and hitting the road in America over the next couple of months. They scored the opening slot of Silversun Pickups tour which undoubtedly will put them in front of thousands of people every night. Not too shabby for such a young band.

I sent the trio – Keith Jeffrey (singer/guitarist), Steven Jeffrey (bass), Michael Jeffrey (drums) and Darren Sell (keyboards) – some questions prior to their U.S. live debut. Not sure which of the guys answered the questions, but here ya go.

ICP Is Suing the FBI For Messing Up Their Hot Topic Money

I am headed to a fair to watch Rough Trucks doing things that god did not intend. but this came across my satellite desk from Vice and i felt it was important. THE FBI is fucking up ICP’s money:

Last night, I was chilling with Joseph Bruce, AKA Violent J of ICP, in his bus at the 13th annual Gathering Of The Juggalos. He told me that “ICP is going to do something huge for our fans, and the world. We’re suing the FBI to be taken off their list. They’re trying to kill our band, and we have to fight back…”

…In the weeks leading up to this year’s Gathering Of The Juggalos, ICP’s attorneys warned that “there’s no telling what’s gonna happen at the Gathering this year. This is the first time we had the festival now that we’re a ‘gang.’ According to the FBI, we’re all at a gang rally, and our merchandise is gang apparel.”…

…Violent J explained how the FBI’s ruling has affected ICP’s business in a major way: “When they made that list, stores like Hot Topic stopped carrying our stuff, because they don’t want to be selling gang apparel…”

Dolfish – “I’d Rather Disappear Than Stay the Same”

MP3: I’d Rather Disappear Than Stay the Same

As always, it’s great to see a local name on a national press release (though there’s no mention of Max’s time here in town). The first full-length release from Dolfish is entitled I’d Rather Disappear Than Stay the Same and is scheduled for release October 30th on Afternoon Records. More deets from the press release:

Dolfish is the moniker of 23-year-old Cleveland born songwriter, Max Sollisch. His debut EP, Your Love is Bummin’ Me Out was released on vinyl last December by Minneapolis based Afternoon Records (Pomegranates, John Vanderslice, The Poison Control Center) and met with great praise by taste-makers My Old Kentucky Blog, Daytrotter, and You Ain’t No Picasso, among others. Your Love is Bummin’ Me Out’s lyrical wit and lo-fi production gained comparisons to folk heroes Daniel Johnston, John Darnielle and Neil Young while it’s concise songwriting (5 songs in 8 minutes) yielded comparisons to Ohio-based rockers, Guided By Voices and Times New Viking.

For the first proper Dolfish LP, Sollisch enlisted like-minded label-mate Patrick Tape Fleming (The Poison Control Center) to produce the album in the living room of a friend’s apartment in downtown Des Moines, Iowa. Recorded and mixed to 1/2″ tape in just 5 days, I’d Rather Disappear Than Stay the Same features a backing band of all Iowa musicians whom Max had only met upon arriving in Des Moines to record. Tracked live with little overdubbing, these 12 songs were rarely rehearsed more than a hand full of times by the all-Iowa, all-star backing band giving the record a spontaneity and rawness rarely achieved on a studio album.
