Alina Simone: New Album, New Book, New Tour

I became friends with Alina Simone a few years ago during SXSW and then we released a 7″ album split betwen her and The Black Swans.

Since then, Alina has been keeping busy, preparing a new full length album and her debut book of essays, both of which are officially available today. Make Your Own Danger is available via limited edition LP/CD/MP3 and her book, You Must Go and Win, is available in finer book stores everywhere. Download a chapter for free over here.

Alina is starting to line up tour dates to promote the album, including a free Largehearted Lit reading Wednesday at WORD Brooklyn which also features John Wesley Harding and baked goods provided by my wife, The Brooklyn Baker.

MP3: Warpspeed

Bicentennial Bear was created in the ashes of Miranda Sound, my favorite band from Columbus and some of my bestie bros from the Buckeye state. Billy Peake soldiered on, bringing in Sean (also from MS), Scott (MS), Adam (Celebrity Pilots), and newcomer Leah. They’ve recorded their first full length and will be celebrating with a release show next Friday, June 10 @ Kobo in Columbus, OH.

MP3: Baseball on the Radio

I was big fans of Dirty on Purpose back in the day. I helped book a few of their shows and they stayed in our house in Columbus a few times while they were on tour. When they broke up, I was sad. No joke.

But! The world keeps spinning, and here we are with a new album from DoP alum Doug Marvin’s new band Pursesnatchers which also features his wife, Au Revoire Simone’s Annie Hart. If this first song is any indication, the full length is gonna rule. It comes out July 19 on Uninhabitable Mansions.

Related: Saw my first purse snatching attempt Friday night on the 6 train. The woman, however, through sheer willpower and intense screaming, forced the snatcher into a trance and basically made him give it back. Don’t mess with that lady, criminals. Seriously.
