The last time Maynard James Keenan and Puscifer came through town we were treated to a near Lynchian hoedown. On this particular occasion we were met by pilots and flight attendants flying the friendly skies of Vagina Air. Yes, Vagina Air.

Two large screens flanked the stage while two smaller picture frame-esque monitors stood side by directly in the middle of the stage. That was also where Maynard and the female counterpart of Puscier, British chanteuse and opener Carina Round would stand behind and gyrate being projected through a fisheye lens. Continue reading →

Thursday in Columbus: Puscifer, The Chris Robinson Brotherhood, Hallelujah the Hills, Dope Body

Lots going on Thursday. Get out. See live music. Skip work on Friday, it’s okay, I’ll write you a “doctor’s note”.

Puscifer, with special guest Carina Round, is playing the indoor stage at the LC. Tickets are $35 in advance, $37.50 day of show.

The Chris Robinson Brotherhood plays the A&R Bar (yes, you read right, the A&R Bar!!!). Tickets are $18 in advance, $20 day of show.

Hallelujah the Hills play at The Tree Bar. $6 will get you in the door and provide an intimate experience with Boston band.

Dope Body is at Double Happiness (thanks Joel). $6 in advance, $8 day of show.

Look, Life really is what you make it and as dumb and silly and boring and rehashed and cliche as that sounds, that’s the way the cookie crumbles brother. I really have been on a pretty intense YEAH! LIFE! YEAH! IT IS COOL! don’t sweat the small stuff kinda trip and it’s great. Let’s hang out, I will make you LOL. Life’s to short to be boring and stupid. Everyone should be cool and fun instead. Life should be more Celestine Prophecy and less 48 Laws of Power. Gnome sayin?

I totally forgot what is was like to get excited for shows and I totally forgot what kind of a bummer it is when a band cancels. Yes, let’s talk about the bands. I saw some doozies! Shilpa Ray and her Happy Hookers, Phantods, Ghost Shirt, The Altered States of the United Snakes, ipps, not Goes Cube (super bummed), Puscifer (Maynard James Motherfucking Keenan) and I even caught a David Bazan song or two. Puscifer: The Mission

The ever-prolific Maynard James Keenan (Tool, A Perfect Circle) brings his latest musical endeavor, Puscifer, to his home state not once, but twice in the month of March. The first one takes place at the Lorain Palace Theatre on March 21 in Lorain and the second takes place on March 28 in Columbus at The Lifestyle Communities Pavilion. Ohio boys Uncle Scratch’s Gospel Revival and “the world’s worst stand-up comedian” Neil Hamburger open the Columbus show.

Puscifer have managed to, for the most part, not sound like APC or Tool. That is, until their most recent release, “C” Is for (Please Insert Sophomoric Genitalia Reference HERE)”. Check out “Polar Bear” and “Humbling River” on Myspace for further proof.
