Record Store Day 2011 Release List

Record Store Day has released their gigantic list of 2011 releases and there’s a ton of stuff. Hope you didn’t spend all your tax refund yet.

This time around they did a nice job of listing how many copies of each release is available, as well as what is a true Record Store Day exclusive and what albums are going to be available on a wider distribution.

Record Store Day is April 16, 2011. What store(s) are you going to?

MP3: Thurston Moore “Benediction”

MP3: Benediction

Ain’t gonna lie – when I heard Beck was producing the new Thurston Moore solo album I was skeptical. Love the first half of Beck’s career WITH MY LIFE but the second half has left me bruised and betrayed.

But then…….!!!!! I heard this first song and all worries vanished. “Benediction” is pure bliss and I can’t wait to hear the rest of the album. Demolished Thoughts comes out May 24 via Matador on 2XLP/digital/CD.

Special Note to Sonic Youth non-fans: Give this a listen. Don’t worry, your ears won’t “hurt” due to the “crazy feedback” and “experimental noise.” Seriously, download it twice. I wish I could download this right inside your ear holes for you.

Latest Donewaiting Banner by Nicholas Nocera of Alison Rose

To spruce up the look of Donewaiting every month, we’ve been asking artists to do a new banner for the website. Last month was Clinton Reno‘s modified version of the Donew8ing Anniversary art, and the next one we’ve just rolled out is by Nicholas Nocera of Alison Rose.

Alison Rose recently redesigned their website and it’s definitely worth checking out. Lots of cool t-shirts, sweatshirts, wallets, etc. Some of my favorite designs of theirs is the Ohio Mixtape and the Love Your Librarian.

We are working with a few different artists for future banners of donewaiting, but if you’d like to contribute one get in touch with me and we’ll slot it in.

Greatest Odd Future Interview Ever

Thanks, Nardwuar.

We’ve posted about Nardwuar in the past. He rules. If you have some time to kill, I’d spend it going through his YouTube archive.

Stream: Wild Flag Concert at SXSW

NPR photo

I was able to see Wild Flag (Carrie Brownstein and Janet Weiss from Sleater-Kinney, Mary Timony, Rebecca Cole) perform one of their first shows ever a few weeks back at The Rock Shop. The sound was huge. The energy was off the charts. Although it’s early in the band’s career, they were tight and the crowd was in love from the first chord. I can’t wait for their first full length to come out.

The band performed an NPR showcase last night at SXSW, and you can stream the whole thing here.

Video: Jack White’s Surprise SXSW Parking Lot Performance

NPR posted video footage of Jack White’s surprise parking lot performance at SXSW. Two songs – one a Buddy Holly cover, the other “Dead Leaves and the Dirty Ground.” After Jack’s performance, you get some music from new Third Man artist, Seasick Steve.

Kanye West Confirmed for SXSW 2011 VEVO Event

We wrote about the rumor awhile ago and this video on Idolator supposedly confirms that it is real. Sorry undiscovered bands at SXSW.
