Psychedelic Horseshit have signed with Fat Cat Records. They have a new album coming out on the label later this year. Before that, though, you can grab an MP3 of a new song by signing up for their e-mail list.

They also went ahead and released last year’s album, Acid Tapes, as a full free download.

Wilco Leaves Nonesuch, Starts New Label “dBpm Records” Being Distributed via Anti-

Chicago’s rock ‘n’ roll shape-shifters Wilco have formed their own label, dBpm Records, whose releases will be distributed and marketed by eclectic Silver Lake independent Anti- Records. A full announcement is expected soon.

“This is an idea we’ve discussed for years,” Wilco’s Jeff Tweedy said via his publicist. “We really like doing things ourselves, so having our own label feels pretty natural to me. And, to be working with Anti- — a label that was started by a punk rock guy to sell his own records — seems like a perfect fit for us.” (full story)

PS – I think I’m gonna go to Solid Sound Festival this year.

Last Night: The Decemberists in New York + They Just Topped the Billboard Charts

It was basically the 500th time I saw The Decemberists last night, and definitely one of the best. Starting the show off with “California One”, I knew it was going to be special. The band played all over their catalog, making me remember how much I love this band. PS: The new album sounded amazing live.

Speaking of the new record, the band has the #1 album on the Billboard charts selling 93,000 copies. Their last album debuted with 19K, so that’s a big ass jump. PS: Of the 93,000 sold, 65% was digital and 3% vinyl.

Set list from last night’s show after the jump. Continue reading

ATP Festival in Asbury Park Includes Jeff Mangum, Portishead

Whoah.

Copy/paste press release style.

All Tomorrow’s Parties returns to the USA this September in the new location of Asbury Park, N.J. bringing an I’ll Be Your Mirror event to the iconic Asbury Park waterfront. For the inaugural American I’ll Be Your Mirror, Portishead will curate and headline their first East Coast shows since 1998 on the Saturday and Sunday! Since returning with their acclaimed Third album in 2008, Portishead have proven to be one of the most exciting live bands around and their long awaited return to the Tri-State Area will no doubt be one of the highlights of the year.

ATP, who are curating on the Friday are also very excited to be able to present Jeff Mangum who on the Friday night will perform his first large public show of Neutral Milk Hotel songs in over a decade. After releasing what is now one of the most loved albums of the 1990s (In The Aeroplane Over The Sea), the group disbanded before many of those who now love their albums had a chance to see the songs performed live, so this will no doubt be a very special occasion. Please note, as Jeff has chosen to play in the stunning, but smaller Paramount theatre only people who buy 3 day festival passes get access to this show on Friday night.

Also playing on the Friday are Chavez, Shellac, Cults and The Album Leaf, with a headliner and some comedians to be confirmed. The rest of the line-ups for the Saturday and Sunday will be announced in the near future.

I’ll Be Your Mirror is a new series of artist curated music, film and art events. Acting as sister events to the ATP Festivals, which take place in holiday resorts, I’ll Be Your Mirror retains the curatorial and multiple band and film concept, but will take place in cities worldwide. The events are named after the b-side to The Velvet Underground’s original All Tomorrow’s Parties 7″ single, released in 1966. Continue reading

Alina Simone: Raw Demos (2002-2008)

MP3 Dreaming of a Blackout (demo)

Over the next few months, Alina Simone has a new book, a new full length album (with vinyl), and oh yeah, a baby coming. 2011 is going to be a busy year indeed. So she’s cleaned out the digital closet, if you will, and has released an album of 16 demo songs that have not seen the light of day. Recorded between 2002 and 2008, these songs are mostly just Alina and a guitar but still pack the same punch as her finished, produced work. Stream/download over at Bandcamp.

The Black Keys vs Vampire Weekend on Colbert

We’re not afraid to admit it – we’ve been posting a lot of Black Keys stuff lately. But what can we say? Band is on a roll.

This is one of the funniest things I’ve seen in awhile. Skip ahead to the 4 minute mark if you want. Who is the biggest sell out?
