Terrastock 7 Rumblings, Highlights, Etc…

We are now only two weeks away from Terrastock 7, to be held in Louisville, KY, and it looks like Donewaiting has become the unofficial web home for previewing the event. So I’m here today persuade all of you who are on the fence about this great festival. At my count at least 37 bands from across the globe will be performing over the course of four days, June 19th-22nd. Full festival passes are still available and individual days are only $25 per day. It looks like there are a variety of lodging options out there too. Louisville is around a three hour drive from Columbus and less than two from Cincinnati and Indianapolis, so even a day-trip is within reason.

Rumors about special collaborations are beginning to pop up, and the one that has me really excited is the idea of Kawabata Makoto of thee most prolific Acid Mothers Temple sitting in with Louisville’s hometown heroes Sapat (pictured above). Continue reading

Kraut Legends Cluster To Headline No Fun Fest 2008

Kosmische music heads across the Eastern seaboard are peeing themselves today as the almighty Cluster have been announced as headliners of No Fun Fest 2008. To be completely honest, I’ve wet myself twice already.

It was thought that the line-up was solidified for the five-year-strong experimental noise festival (May 16, 17 and 18) with Japanese noise veterans Astro and American minimalist Tony Conrad, among others, but festival head Carlos Giffoni has certainly outdone himself with the addition of the German duo of Hans Roedelius and Dieter Moebius.

Roedelius and Moebius have been in the news of late with a reunion show last fall in their homeland, and with the announcement of a reunion for their other classic Kraut group, Harmonia, sometime this year. Add to that the extensive reissue treatment to the entire Cluster and Harmonia + solo catalog and the last few years have been a dream for fans of the two electronic pioneers.

UPDATE:

More from MVF

Here is the final line-up for this thing. There was some talk of having a three day pay pal pass deal, but I think you are looking at 5 bucks on Fri, $5-10 on Sat, and $5 on Sun…

Cheap for so many bands, so bring money for merch, please.

Lollapalooza a Financal Hit

I’d say these numbers make it look good another lolla in 2007.

The event grossed nearly $8 million in ticket sales, with total paid attendance of more than 166,000. Last year’s Lolla, its first as a one-off festival, had a total paid attendance 60,000 from a two-day event. (full story)

If it does happen next year, I think I’m gonna try to go.
