Video: VICE Says This “Larry Zonka” Freestyle is Why They Signed Action Bronson

YouTube Preview Image

Vice sent out this video because they ate steaks with Action Bronson at Peter Lugers and then went to one his shows that had something to do with Converse Rubbertracks at the Williamsburg Music Hall after they signed him..   Noisey is dropping a video for Bird on the Wire  from that show tomorrow. And I guess they were so stoked that after murdering the crowd that Bronson did this that they unbuttoned their top button and got fronted a bag of cocaine because they felt they had made a good rap investment. Well, the press release said nothing about cocaine or their pants. But I gotta keep it sexy.

Action Bronson is playing Skully’s in Columbus, Ohio on October 12th.

Video: the Child of Lov Proclaims the Beginning is Nigh

YouTube Preview Image

The Child of Lov announce the album’s imminence with the above video.  The Child of Lov were discovered by Trey Reames who is also the man that hooked Dangermouse up with Cee-Lo which eventually led to something called Gnarls Barkley.  Reames discovered Child of Lov after hearing “Heal” on Pitchfork. The appeal is pretty obvious because Child of Lov kinda sounds like if UMO and Cee-Lo Green made music together. Well, not the above accapelle video which sounds like the essence of all things but I am talking about the HEAL song.

The Child of Lov’s album is coming out on a Domino Records imprint Double Six.  It guests Damon Albarn, Doom and Thundercat.

Peep other tracks on Complex and Okayplayer .

The new Aimee Mann video for “Labrador” was written & directed by Tom Scharpling and stars Jon Wurster and Jon Hamm (and, briefly, Ted Leo). It’s a good one.

Mann’s new album, Charmer, is out today. She’ll play the Capitol Theatre in Columbus on Nov. 8. Solo Ted Leo opens.

Video: The Black Swans – “Mask from Memory”

On Friday American Songwriter premiered the video for the Black Swans song “Mask from Memory,” from the band’s excellent new album, Occasion for Song. I talked to singer Jerry DeCicca quite a bit about the record for an Other Paper story, particularly how DeCicca has been processing the death of his friend and former Black Swans violinist Noel Sayre, and how that grieving process made its way into Occasion for Song.

DeCicca delved into a bit more detail about “Mask from Memory,” in particular, when speaking to American Songwriter, saying, “The song is story of process and dreams… imagining yourself creating a mask of your friend that died to see things through his eyes. The mask is the memory you see the world through; the construction is the song’s metaphor for engaging your own thoughts and feelings in hopes of learning something about yourself.”

Video: Gucci Mane – “Bussin’ Juggs”

YouTube Preview Image

the Gucci Mane drops a video for “Bussin’ Juggs” where after partying in the road with a bunch of his friends that are dressed the same; Gucci goes home a puts a bunch of shirts over his head and listens to some coked up man talk. This is after also hamging out with no shirt for a good bulk of the video in other scenes. I was gonna take my shirt off and bounce around but the mixed message about what to do with shirts confused me.

Gucci’s new mixtape “Trap God” is coming on October 17th.

Video: Ty Segall – “The Hill”

(NPR Music  )

Ty Segall’s new video for the “The Hill” looks like a VHS tape getting eaten while a child plays with somewhat scary toys on the ground. Well, not exactly.  “The Hill” is off Ty Segall’s upcoming album Twins which will be released on Drag City on October 9th. “The Hill” features Thee Oh Sees’ Brigid Dawson if you were wondering.

Ty Segall is touring with The Oh Sees and the dates are after the jump.

Video: The Lost Revival – “Two Minus One Equals One”

YouTube Preview Image

I’ve never seen a bad Lost Revival show, and this new video for “Two Minus One Equals One” from the band’s latest release, The Greatest Scam Ever Pulled, does a good job of showing why. There’s nothing particularly special about the slow-mo footage (shot by Monolithic Cloud Parade’s Corey Fry) in the video: just some good camera work of the Lost Revival onstage and some brief moments captured off-stage rehearsing, loading, etc. But those onstage moments reveal a lot; when it’s slowed down, you can see just how much Kevin Collins squeezes out of every performance. He’s a showman to the core.

Related: Independents’ Day is this week, and, as usual, it boasts a strong lineup of Columbus bands. You can catch The Lost Revival at the Gay & Third stage @ 4:40 on Saturday. Full schedule here.
