Low, Ted Leo (and more) Playing The AV Club’s Free Show During SXSW

The AV Club just posted details of their annual free show during SXSW. Always one of the best line ups every year.

It’s March Into Softness 2011, our free SXSW day party, slated for Friday, March 18 at the Mohawk. Here’s the lineup, designed for maximum aural satisfaction and assembled with great care with our co-presenters, Canvas Media and Flowerbooking:

Wye Oak (3 p.m.)
Ted Leo (solo) (2 p.m.)
Gentlemen Jesse And His Men (1 p.m.)

March Into Softness 2011: It’s free, it’s fun, and, more than likely, it won’t involve anyone getting smashed in the face with a can of Pepsi Max.

The Flaming Lips, Neko Case to Headline Nelsonville Music Festival 2011

MP3: People Got a Lotta Nerve by Neko Case

Nelsonville Music Festival in Nelsonvile, Ohio is more ATP NY than Lollapalooza. A great music fest in a chill environment. They’ve just announced the headliners and it’s a doozy: The Flaming Lips, George Jones, and Neko Case will all be headling the three day event that takes place May 13-15. Tickets are on sale Monday. Lots more bands to be announced soon.

To get a feel for the festival, read our coverage from last year.

Donew8ing: Phantods

Good thing we asked Phantods to play our anniversary show a couple months ago. Since then, the band has been getting solid airplay on Columbus’ CD101 and just played in front of a sold out crowd at the Newport opening for Fitz and the Tantrums. With some regional touring and a vinyl release in the works, it looks like 2011 will be their year.

Catch them tonight at our anniversary show at Kobo before the band fully graduates to larger venues only.

Donewaiting Anniversary Shows Through the Ages

As we prepare for Friday’s 8 Year Anniversary show in Columbus, I thought it would be fun to take a look back at the shows we’ve done over the years for anniversaries.

With a few exceptions, we’ve always tried to invite different bands each year to the anniv shows to keep it fresh. Miranda Sound played every year (including launch party) while the band was around, Envelope and Brainbow made multiple appearances, and a few others, but for the most part it’s always been a bit different year to year.

BACK IN TIME:

YEAR 7
RJD2
Happy Chichester

Thought Collective
DJ Detox

YEAR 6
Envelope Presents The Corner Store

YEAR 5

R.I.P. The White Stripes

Text from their currently crashed website:

The White Stripes would like to announce that today, February 2nd, 2011, their band has officially ended and will make no further new recordings or perform live.

The reason is not due to artistic differences or lack of wanting to continue, nor any health issues as both Meg and Jack are feeling fine and in good health.

It is for a myriad of reasons, but mostly to preserve what is beautiful and special about the band and have it to stay that way.

Meg and Jack want to thank everyone of their fans and admirers for the incredible support they have given throughout the 13 plus years of The White Stripes’ intense and incredible career.

Third Man Records will continue to put out unreleased live and studio recordings from The White Stripes in their Vault subscription record club, as well as through regular channels.

Both Meg and Jack hope this decision isn’t met with sorrow but that it is seen as a positive move done out of respect for the art and music that the band has created. It is also done with the utmost respect to those fans who’ve shared in those creations, with their feelings considered greatly.

With that in mind the band have to say this:

“The White Stripes do not belong to Meg and Jack anymore. The White Stripes belong to you now and you can do with it whatever you want. The beauty of art and music is that it can last forever if people want it to. Thank you for sharing this experience. Your involvement will never be lost on us and we are truly grateful.”

Sincerely,
Meg and Jack White
The White Stripes
