Anything look incredible to you? Leave a comment.

2/13 SXSW Open Post

Post comments, questions, show announcements, “band available for your showcase,” Austin tips, whatever in this post.

2/12 SXSW Updates

We’re starting to get a lot of official showcases announced by the bands/organizations putting them together… This is usually a sign that the final list of bands/full music schedule will be released soon.

List of Added (and Removed) Bands to SXSW’s Updated List

I had complained that it was difficult to go through the 1,800+ band list on SXSW‘s site and find what bands had been added and removed. A few hours later, a kind donewaiting.com reader (Jay Sutton) sent me lists of just the bands added and removed. He used computer magic.

Silversun Pickups were added… Amanda Palmer, too… Lots and lots more.. (almost 800).. (Also, although not on the list, PJ Harvey is gonna be there too).

Sadly, bands like The Vaselines and Raveonettes are no longer on the list. Could be an error, but it could also be sadness.

Keep reading for the lists. Continue reading

SXSW Updates Official Band List 2/10/09

UPDATE: Click here if you just want to see a list of only the bands removed and added to the list.

I think SXSW does a lot of things right, but I really wish when they did these updates they would do something to show what the changes were… Either put a * next to new names, bold them, something. Ah well, we’ll have the full schedule soon enough. In the meantime, here’s the list of confirmed bands from SXSW. The amount of bands is up to 1,800. And remember, THE LIST IS NOT FINAL. The Damnwells: new CD, interview, SXSW plans

thedamnwells_onelastcenturyIt’s a big day for The Damnwells. At 9 a.m., the band will release it’s third full-length CD, One Last Century, exclusively through Paste Magazine’s website. Fans of the band’s first two releases will want to download the new CD for tracks like “55 Pictures”, “Bastards of Midnight” and “Down with the Ship” while those who just recently discovered the band due to their inclusion on the Chaos Theory soundtrack will undoubtedly fall in love with “Jesus Could Be Right”, “Closer”, and “WWXII”.

My personal favorite is “Like It Is”, which Alex first debuted in a YouTube video accompanied by his wife Angela on backing vocals. As you listen to it, just imagine the Dixie Chicks providing backing vocals, banjo, and violin.

MP3: “Like It Is”

On the eve of the virtual release, I gave Alex a call at his (temporary) home in Iowa where he is attending The University of Iowa’s Writers’ Workshop. The following is our close-to-40-minute conversation.

MP3: Interview with Alex Dezen

And in SXSW news, Alex revealed that The Damnwells will play an unofficial day party hosted by September Gurl, Organic Entertainment, and Ripple Entertainment on March 18 at Threadgills (South Store).  More info as we get it.

Now get to downloading One Last Century. (available after 9 a.m.)

Aussie BBQ @ SXSW (we’ve got the details)

Looking like another great year for the Aussie BBQ. This party is open to SXSW badgeholders (entry subject to capacity).

I’ll have to do some homework before heading to Austin as the only two names that I’m familiar with are Youth Group and Gabriella Cilmi, who could be one of the hits of SXSW 2009 if her live show lives up to her recorded material. Continue reading
