Tristan Swan of Love Culture was done waiting for somebody else to put on a festival featuring bands influenced by the likes of The Cure, Smashing Pumpkins and My Bloody Valentine so he decided to take matters into his own hands.

This Saturday night, Swan presents the second annual Big Day In festival featuring not only local shoegazer/ambient-rock talent, but some national touring acts as well. While many of the bands come from the same collective influences, Swan’s the first to admit that he really just, “wanted to get the bands we really like on the bill.”

The Britt Daniel/Dan Boeckner/Sam Brown band Divine Fits just announced they’ll play their third show (ever) at Ace of Cups in Columbus on Aug. 6. From the band’s Facebook:

We are in need of some serious release and couldn’t be more jazzed to play in front of living sweating human beings. I’m especially excited to share this experience with people who have been nothing but amazing to me for many years. I can’t think of a better joint than Ace of Cups to kick this off. Awhile back we posted remix of a Gift of Gab song done by Wavves’ Nathan Williams and his brother Kynan . Well, Fool’s Gold is putting out an instrumental beat tape by the Williams brothers called Stay Calm on August 7th. Thy William’s brothers project itself is called Sweet Valley. On the tape they chop and screw American Bandstand breaks on joints like the above “Total Carnage” and I guess go g-funk on “Dunk Dreams 95”. Smoke weed everyday.

Wavves are also on the cover of Spin with Best Coast.

Tyler, the Creator twittered a link to Odd Future’s tumblr that had tourdates and release dates. Tourdates include a Columbus, Ohio, September 12th show. full listing of tourdates at the bottom of this post.

Domo Genesis is dropping a mixtape with the motherfucking Alchemist on August 1st called No Idols. Above is a song from that tape called Elimination Chamber that features Earl Sweatshirt, Vince Staples and Action Bronson.

On October 2nd, Mellowhype will drop their new album Numbers. Hear a brand new jawn from Hodgy Beats & Left Brain called “La Bonita”.

Fresh off their first ever interview with a rock band (Alberta Cross), Connie and Olivia hit up the Bunbury Music Festival this past weekend where they had the opportunity to grab a few minutes of time from 8 different performing artists. One of those artists was Quiet Corral, a 6-six piece from Lawrence, Kansas that put on a great, folk-inspired set on Friday afternoon.

Quiet Corral has a few upcoming tour dates, opening for Gomez, including a stop at The Newport Music Hall on Sunday, July 22. Tickets are $20 in advance, $25 day of show.

On July 31st, Blackalicious will re-release their early 90’s ep Melodica. Below is “Changes” a song recorded in 1993 in England when they were first getting down with Mo Wax . “Changes” was originally only available on a rare vinyl Japanese version of Melodica.
“Changes” was produced by DJ Shadow, Cheif Xcel, James Lavelle and will be on the reissue.

On July 31st, Blackalicious will also drop a new single “Blacka” which will began a wave of new music by the Bay Area duo.

Blackalicious’ Gift of Gab’s dropped a video for “Protocol” off his upcoming album “The Next Logical Progression” today as well.

Here’s an intimate video of Nick Tolford at a piano, sans Company, crooning an unreleased ballad called “Cancel Your Plans.” (“Cancel your plans and go lay out a blanket, and I’ll get a bottle of wine / We’ll spend our days as the sun fades away, holding hands it’ll be just so fine.”) Recorded live at Columbus’s Oranjudio studio, with video production by Ginger Attack.

And don’t forget that new Nick Tolford & Co. free covers EP, featuring “You Don’t Know Me,” “Ain’t No Sunshine” and “Stand By Me,” recorded at O’Shaughnessy Funeral Home back in 2010.
