Illogic (little interview w Me) Video + Tourdates + Rmx w Aesop Rock / Slug / Zero

A few weeks ago, I interviewed Illogic for a feature in the Alive. He spliced footage of this interview with footie of his release parties in Dayton and Columbus for this video thats circulating the internet.

Illogic is mad eloquent. I am mad hung-over.

I am not the only weird-o eccentric writerdood that Illogic is circulating the net with currently. Hip Hop DX is streaming the rmx of Diabolical Fun that features longtime penpal’s Slug, Aesop Rock & Columbus rapper Zero Star. Listen to the remix here–>Hip Hop DX
Watch video of Aesop recording his words here–>here

Zero will Join Illogic & DJ Manwell on the upcoming Diabolical Fun Tour. If you are wierd white poet writerdood please interrupt Zerostar anytime he is talking to a girl & ask him how he feels about the hole in the OZONE layer and/or tell him all your girl problems. Continue reading

No Scribble Jam in 2009

Earlier this week, midwest hip hop saint, Kevin Beacham sent out this email announcing the end of Scribble Jam. Scribble was a Hip Hop festival in Cincy.

Later this week I might post highlights that include me painting at Scribble, Eminem, MF Doom, Sage Francis, Meta4ce, Brand Nubian, RJD2,Def Jux,Atmosphere, Anticon, Blueprint and disparging comments about the females that the so-called “Queen City” has to offer.

BUt until then…here is what Mr. Beacham had to say.

Scribble Jam 1996-2008

First off, let me just say thank you to everyone who has been reaching out about Scribble ’09. Sorry for putting you on hold, but we had a lot of things to consider. This letter explains it all. Sorry it’s a bit long but I wanted to really try to capture the full situation. If you just want the details without the theatrics, skip to the last two paragraphs J

Blueprint Announces New Instrumental Album & New Blog

It will be a little longer before Blueprint’s next Rhymesayer album “Adventures in Counter-Culture” hits stores. In the meantime, the Columbus rapper/producer has a couple things to hold his fans over. Print is taking pre-orders for a limited-edition instrumental album that will be availble exclusively on www.weightless.net called “Sign Language”.

Here is an MP3 from “Sign Language”:

MP3 :Blueprint-Numb

In case you miss Prints’ words & opinions often heard in his raps, fear not. Print has also just launched a new blog called More Music Less Bullshit.

Hery’s Up in the New Catch Me If You Can Magazine

Columbus graffiti writer and national treasure, Hery, has a piece up in the new issue of Catch Me If You Can. It’s a production he painted with I.O. cats in the Nati on the back of Club Clau.  It looks like molten lava and alien ovulation. There is also a good interview with Rhymesayer Entertainment C.E.O Siddiq about how they built such a nationally prominant label in a Midwestern town not known for Hip Hop like Minneapolis.

Atmosphere Leaks A New Album

If Slug were Santa Claus he would give you a new, free Atmosphere album for the Holidays. This free download has Columbus Rhymesayer Blueprint on a track. The following was posted up by Slug and Ant on www.rhymesayers.com:

as a way to thank all of our supporters, ant and i have put together this party favor.

it’s called “strictly leakage.” thirteen songs to chase away the winter doldrums.
free and downloadable at this link : Right Click and Save as…

it’s great for first dates, crappy houseparties, or to play in the backround while you google yourself again.

is downloadable a word?
what’s a doldrum?

nonetheless, thank you for the love, and please have a happy safe holiday.

oh yeah, i almost forgot,
“sad clown bad winter 11” is available now, and a new album from atmosphere, “when life gives you lemons, you paint that shit gold” will be available on april 22 2008.

Columbus Ex-Pats Updates

Aside from the Spoon and Brother Ali shows, Columbus has been kinda boring me this past week. The SEVEN Karoake nights, ZAS release party and many talent shows didn’t quite give me what I need.

It has actually driven me to quit drinking.

Throw in the impending shutting down of Little Brothers and The Other Paper getting bought, and Columbus seems a little bit shaky right now. Sometimes I think our city gets a little spotty because ot the constant brain drain of our best and brightest. Then the locals waste their collective time with cocaine and karoake.

So to give myself some stimulation, I decided to by check in on Columbus Ex-Pats via the intrawebs.

THOM LESSNER, drawer and singer-songwriter brother of number 1 restaurant starter Liz Lessner recently appeared on Darren’s Basement. From what I can gather, the show is a real-life Philly version of Wayne’s World. In the clip Thom’s band Sweatheart gets interviewed by kill bitches-get money rap pioneer Schoolly D.

PATRICK O’DELL & ANGELA BOATWRIGHT are former Columbus citizens that take pictures for publications like Vice, Thrasher, and Mass Appeal. They are showing pictures of young people acting or at least looking like they are up to no good in Los Angeles..
