YouTube Preview Image

The dudes behind the scenes of the Donewaiting.com presents Live at Electraplay finally decided to get in front of the camera and rock the studio with like lazers and lights and stuff and if i may, these guys have come A LONG way since I first saw them and wrote about them in the now defunct (?) Weakened Wrap-up and I went from not really feelin it to totally diggin it and this might just be my favorite Town Monster song so far.

The Town Monster track “1000 Wolves” has been added to the CD101 at 102.5’s playlist, they are opening for Crystal Castles on August 3rd at the Newport and are in the running to open CD101 Summerfest 2011. (Vote here)

“Raincloud” can be found on The Town Monster’s “February EP”

Friday in Columbus: Shilpa Ray and Her Happy Hookers

YouTube Preview Image

Fresh off tour with Grinderman, prepping for a tour with Acid Mothers Temple, on their way to SXSW, Shilpa Ray and Her Happy Hookers are making a stop at Columbus’ A&R Music Bar to blow minds/deliver chills/hypnotize onlookers. I was fortunate enough to catch Shilpa, formerly of Beat the Devil fame, when she came through town last year and words just don’t do the live show justice. Do yourself a favor and go to the A&R Music Bar for once in your life, lord knows if there’s ever gonna be another reason to go.

Local weird rockers and CD101 Day opening candidates The Town Monster kick off what is sure to be a memorable evening.

Thursday in Columbus: Chris Castle and The Womack Family Band

Chris Castle is a captivating folk/Americana artist from right here in the great state of Ohio that just might have slipped under your radar. Now he’s on it. Check him out with Appalachian wunderkinds The Womack Family Band at Rumba Cafe Thursday (2/24) and follow The Drenched Earth video tour log here. Volume #2 after the jump. Continue reading

Donewaiting.com presents Live at Electraplay: DD/MM/YYYY (with mp3)

MP3: DD/MM/YYYY – Zebra Cakes (Live at Electraplay)

DD/MM/YYYY is an amiable group of fellows from the Great White North that do a good job of defying categorization. Art-wave is what I might call it, turbo-psyche is what they might call it. Pseudo-genres aside, you certainly can’t deny their energy. The fact that they somehow managed to play a near record 18 shows in 3 days at SXSW in 2010 is a case in point. (Unfortunately they won’t be making the trek this year.) The dudes were kind enough to swing by Electraplay when they were in town on tour with the now-defunct Women and jam a few tunes, drink a few beers and answer a few questions. Check out how the rest went after the break. Continue reading

The Intelligence Tour Journal: Columbus Edition

Pictured :Errand Boy’s guest room

The Intelligence played Cafe Bourbon Street with The Guinea Worms not too long ago and are documenting their journey for The Stranger. Basically it’s just dude talking sh!t about people that were nice enough to put them up. Here’s what they had to say about our fine burg-

If you are looking for skuzzy rock and roll underbellies, this is your spot, folks. But I like Columbus. I think. Cafe Bourbon St. always treats us well, and we get to have dinner with Eric’s parents at a brewery downtown called Pardon My Reach, or maybe that’s all I can remember after the waiter said it to the point of Chinese water torture. His parents are cool and fun, and in an effort to relive their fears after seeing the club we were playing tonight, I tell them we’re playing a festival with Weird Al Yankovic in a couple weeks (TRUE), and it seems to help. The Soft Pack and Kurt Vile are playing tonight too, and we run over and catch three great Soft Pack songs. Wish we could stay, but you can’t beat the Free Hot Dogs Clause at Bourbon St. I dig the first band and tell them so, and they respond with “Even though our drummer has a beard?!” I can only think to tell them “It’s better than dreadlocks?” A nice friend of ours offers to put us up. We stayed there last year, and it was pretty raunchy (a deep green, spore-covered coffee pot immediately comes to mind), but we don’t have any other offers. He has to “run an errand,” and asks to meet at a party down the street. Continue reading

Video: The Left Rights – “White”

The Left Rights are Jimmy and Steve of Mindless Self Indulgence and I’ve made it no secret here and over at the Friendship Farm that I pretty much totally love Mindless Self Indulgence. That said, The Left Rights are no MSI but they do have their moments as evidenced here in the video for “White” off of their recently released Bad Choices Made Easy.

These guys did it, they made the best video on the internet.

Tonight in Columbus: Priestess at Skully’s

YouTube Preview Image

I’m not sure what you’re up to tonight, but if you like super totally bad ass live rock shows, then there’s no reason you shouldn’t be attending this show. I saw Priestess open for High on Fire last time they came through (which was the night I called 911 for the first time in my life because some chick fell through my glass coffee table and was bleeding from her back) and 2 things real quick-they slayed my brain and their albums don’t do their live show justice.

What I’m saying is if you like cool shit you should go to this show because Priestess will rock your socks off.

Video: Phantods – “Creature”

Phantods is keeping it quirky and catchy on “Creature” (Donewaiting staffers are yet to discuss it) which they just so happen to be having a cd release for on Saturday, November 13 at Skully’s with The Receiver and Karate Coyote. (Quick aside, Karate Coyote always make me think of Hong Kong Phooey, might be a better band name too)

Phantods also recently joined patradio for a 5 song live performance at Electraplay.

Check out an acoustic performance of “Revival” and the flier for Saturday night’s show after the jump. Continue reading
