Listen: Skyzoo “Jansport Strings” Remix Ft Chi Ali

(mtvhive)

Oh vey. Skyzoo got Chi Ali on the Remix for Jansport Strings which is an ode to how Skyzoo was inspired  as a child to see a young rapper like Chi Ali out there living the dream with the Native Tongues Crew.  The Jansport String narrative goes that Skyzoo got into Hip Hop because of this inspiration which helped keep him out of trouble. Interesting irony, as Chi Ali eventually ended up on America’s Most Wanted for murder despite being reared in the D.A.i.S.Y. Age. A mixture of factors exist in the world. Well, Ali is back out of jail and on Skyzoo’s song.  It must be noted that Ali expressess remorse for the killing on this remix.  It’s also a pleasure to listen to 2 people that are this delighted to be on a Hip Hop track together.

Watch: Yelawolf Skateboard, Play With A Gun & Jump From A Balcony

In the above Slumerican tour video Yelawolf does various activities that people value. Let’s rate them. He is really good at skateboarding. Like so good that he makes me feel like I should never type about skateboarding again because it seems fake. He also watches his friend eat shrooms. He seems like he is good at that. Yelawolf busts a handstyle. Not so good. But not terrible.  Yelawolf also plays with a gun. Yelawolf does not shoot himself or his friends so although he is friends with Eminem the Slumerican rapper is no Cheddar Bob. Yelawolf performs to a sell-out crowd. He brings a 12 year-old on stage and also stage dives from a balcony. So he is good at pleasing his fans and being exciting.

Yelawolf  is playing Skully’s in Columbus on October 26th.  Rittz, Trouble Andrew, DJ Vajra and Path are also on the bill. Tickets are available at Dreadful Sounds, Roots Records & online here.

Used Kids celebrates 26 years in business with full day of music, pizza, special deals

Through good times and bad, Used Kids Records has managed to survive in a world where record stores are closing at an alarming rate. The campus landmark has made it through a fire, competition from both independently-owned stores as well as national franchises, and the on-set of the digital age where consumers can purchase new music with a click of a button and never have to venture into a brick-and-mortar store.

On Saturday, the store celebrates it’s 26th year of being in business with a full day of live music, free pizza and special deals (26% off all used inventory). BYOB welcome (but PBR is a sponsor!!!).

Here’s the lineup (Times are subject to change):

1:00 Total Foxx
2:00 Outer Spacist
3:00 Nom Tchotchkes (Dan Dow, Greg Hall, David Banbury and Eva Owen)
4:00 Log (rare reunion show and potentially the final performance for the band)
5:00 Fort Shame
6:00 Betty Machete & the Angry Cougars
7:00 The Girls!
8:00 Connections

Saturday @ Rumba: T.K. Webb’s Sundown returns

YouTube Preview Image

When T.K. Webb came to town, he didn’t waste time forming a band. Sundown initially consisted of Webb, Moons’ Dusty White, Moon High’s Blake Pfister and TV Eye’s Grant Driskell. Then the rhythm section was switched out for Chris Pierce (Main Street Gospel, the Urns) and Vug Arakas (TV Eye, MSG, etc.)

Once Webb and White parted musical ways, Sundown appeared to be over. For all intents and purposes, it was. But after some time off, Webb teamed back up with Pierce and Urns bassist Mike Leach (also of Struck by Lightning). After practicing for more than a month at Pierce’s house in rural Orient, Ohio, Sundown is back with a more stripped-down sound they’ll debut Saturday at Rumba Cafe as a trio; it’s Webb’s first show with a band since May. Expect songs from the Spoonful Records 12-inch Mansion Burning — including “Life’s Too Long,” currently in rotation on CD102.5 — and some new stuff, too.

Red Feathers and Psychic Wheels open.
