Video: the MHz Legacy – “Gone”

YouTube Preview Image

the MHz were a group that consisted of Copywrite, Jakki, Tage, RJD2, and the late Camu Tao.the MHz along with Blueprint, and J-Rawls put Columbus on the international indie rap map during the late 90’s.  The surviving members of the MHz are back 15 years later with a new self-titled album on Man Bites Dog Records.  There are Camu verses on the album. The album  is alot like something that would’ve come out on Eastern Conference records as it has a buttload of features from the likes of Danny Brown, Oh No, ILL BILL, Slaine, Blu, Slug, along with some outside production from Harry Fraud, !llmind, Stu Bangas and Marco Polo.

The above video was directed by R.M.L. The above song is produced by Surok.

Drag City alums Magik Markers will play a free in-store show. Hometown scuzzies Psychedelic Horseshit will open, along with Ryan Jewell. Things kick off about 5pm. BYOB, hunt for some records, listen to some good/loud music and be reminded of how lucky we are to have a place like Used Kids.

Columbus’s very own Scrawl played ATP’s “I’ll Be Your Mirror USA” in NYC this weekend, and in a nice surprise that you may have seen coming, Greg Dulli invited Scrawl singer (and Ace of Cups owner) Marcy Mays onstage to reprise her role as lead vocalist for the Afghan Whigs tune “My Curse.” A fan captured it in this video.

To put it in context, here’s a similar video (with better audio/video quality) from the Reading Fest in 1994:

This is off DJ Drama’s upcoming Quality Street Music Album.

Review: Odd Future / Columbus, Ohio / 9-12

I went and saw Odd Future last week in Columbus.  The picture above has Odd Future performing with a 12 year-old kid onstage they brought up from the crowd. Now, I cannot say that I would advocate bringing a 12 year-old anywhere but he is pretty symbolic of Odd Future’s success. I do not buy underage people booze at the store when they stop me and and say, “hey will you buy me some booze?” I say “you should find Walmart edited versions of Boots Riley songs.”

But I will say 7th grade for me was Slayer & gangsta rap.

MP3:Action Bronson – Its Me (Prod. by Party Supplies)

Above is a new song  that Action Bronson twittered. Below is a video that Noisey put together of Bronson rocking “Bird On A Wire” at the Williamsburg Music Hall. At some point he hands out steaks that him and Vice brought for public consumption. Bronson later goes into the crowd during Riff Raff’s verse.

Action Bronson will be in Columbus, October 12th @ Skullys. I do not think he will feed you but he will probably smoke weed and carry drunk women is my guess. We are a smaller market.
