Bunbury Festival featured artist: Alberta Cross

This is a special preview. My daughter Olivia and her friend Connie will be accompanying us to the Bunbury Festival this week. The two will (hopefully) be talking to some of the bands after their sets and will provide daily video recaps from Cincinnati. Alberta Cross performed in Columbus last Friday night and Olivia and Connie had the chance to sit down with singer Petter Ericson Stakee (wearing the hat) and bassist Terry Wolfers to ask questions about Bunbury.

Alberta Cross is a 5-piece based out of Brooklyn but with members from around the globe (including London, England and Columbus, Ohio). With a sound that mixes alt-rock, blues, and country-influenced roots rock, Alberta Cross has toured with the likes of Oasis, the Dave Matthews Band, Them Crooked Vultures, Dead Confederate, Everest, etc.

Bunbury Festival featured artist: Hotfox

Hotfox performs on the Landor stage at 2:15pm on Saturday, July 14

Hotfox is a 5-piece from Bloomington, Indiana that has scored support slots on shows with Dale Earnhardt Jr Jr, Margot & the Nuclear So & So’s, Company of Thieves, Bear Hands, and Walk the Moon. The band’s laidback sound (not unlike Built to Spill’s) should make for a perfect early afternoon listen.

Bunbury Festival featured artist: Emily and the Complexes

Emily and the Complexes perform on the AliveOne stage at 2:15pm on

Emily and the Complexes are a Columbus, Ohio four-piece specializing in folk-inspired indie rock (think a mix of Earwig and Superchunk). The band will be releasing its debut, Styrofoam Plate Blues, in August and then hitting the road to play shows on the East Coast (and all points in between) in September.

What are 3 things that you know about Cincinnati?

1 – Skyline Chili (via Barb Abney)
2 – On Tecmo Super Bowl (for NES), the most lethal play in their default playbook is bottom left passing play, nicknamed “the Snakecharmer” for the fact that Boomer rolls out and can pass to any 3 of the receivers, including James Brooks, on a flats route.
3 – A great band, Heartless Bastards, is from there.
