Friday was the last day of the amazing Music Week Columbus. This night I made it to all three venues to catch Audrey & Orwell, Maza Blaska and Moon High at Rumba, Phantods at Kobo and finally Town Monster at Rumba Cafe.

Last week I photographed the CD101 Local show competition of the Phantods, Town Monster and Wet Darlings. The winner (Phantods) would go on to play CD101 Day at LC Pavilion with a gaggle of class national acts!

People call bands “ambitious” if they put out a lot of music. The Town Monster certainly does that; the trio released an EP every month of 2010. But the band does a lot more than that, too. The Town Monster made its own Christmas special, animated by singer Nathan Photos. And they also promise to release episodes of “Town Monster TV” throughout 2011 (promo above).
Sometimes they do normal rock-band things, too, like play shows. Catch the head-to-head keyboards of Photos and James Allison, with Matt Grady on drums, at the Donew8ing show Friday night.
Our eighth anniversary show, Donew8ing, is a week from tomorrow at Kobo (formerly Oldfield’s on High). We’ve got a sweet Reno poster coming soon, but, till then, here’s a few more things to get excited about:
– The first 50 people through the door will receive a free vodka or gin drink, compliments of Watershed Distillery, based right here in Columbus. So come early.
– Ghost Shirt will be playing through their album Daniel, from front to back. If you haven’t heard it yet, stream it or buy it for a buck on Bandcamp. Really looking forward to hearing the whole thing live.
We’ll also be recording all the sets to pick out some gems for you guys to have as a Donew8ing keepsake. We’ll keep you posted on that.
See you next Friday, Feb. 4, at 9pm at Kobo for Funky D, Time and Temperature, Ghost Shirt, Phantods and the Town Monster.
