MP3:Fly Union ft Chip the Ripper-“Tell Her”

MP3:Fly Union Tell Her (feat. Chip Tha Ripper)

Ohio all-star on the come up cut. Columbus’ Fly dot U teams up with Thieveland weedsmoker Chip the Ripper. Their advice to you? When talking to a young lady:tell her what she wants to hear.
This song advocating presenting an ideal image of yourself is off Fly Union’s Value Pack 5.
Other songs on Value Pack 5
-“We Out” which the hook boasts that “they make ladies say ho, and the hoes say owww” and they don’t give a shit if hardlegs like their music. Jerraeu also realistically flips Project Pat with Snoop .”She don’t want to be saved. Good cause I’m no hero. You don’t love me.You love my potential”
-“Go Dumb” is about having sex while weeded
-“Tonight” Is a song about determination to be successful and reps Columbus pretty hard. Aside from that The quotable on this one is “My pockets are eco-friendly. Go Green.”
-“Winter Summer”- Has a salsa summer vibe. You know, having a buzz looking for a breezy.

MP3:Copywrite Ft/Middle Distance Runner-Forever and A Day(Produced By RJD2)

Tuttle Park, Columbus Ohio

MP3:Copywrite-Forever and a Day

“On Forever and a Day” RJD2 and Copywrite work together to mourn their fellow Megahert, Camu Tao. They brought in an indie rock group, Middle Distance Runner, to add layers and sing the hook. This is the first song on Copywrite’s upcoming album the Life and Time of Pete Nelson due out in October.

Def Jux and Fat Possum are putting out Camu’s album King of Hearts August 16th

(I swear to Allah that I’m not trying to get on this computer and talk about death everyday. Not to get all Jim Carrol, but, 3 major figures in hip hop from Columbus did die. And both of Copy’s parents are deceased so…artists are gonna make art about what affects them )

MP3-Greenhouse feat The Catalyst-Cold Out Here

MP3: Greenhouse Featuring The Catalyst-Cold Out Here

My favorite two hip hop songs so far this Winter  are Jay Electronica’s “Exhibit C”,  and this Greenhouse/Catalyst collab, ” Cold Out Here” from Greenhouse’s EP, Electric Purgatory. On “Cold Out Here” all three emcees bring sobering depictions of how harsh these times can be.
Print raps about how stifling the world is right now, especially with the economy still fucked. Illogic speaks on ignoring detractors. And the Catalyst confesses to being an intoxicated, combustable mixture of talent and self-destructive tendencies in the midst of indifference.
Don’t sleep on the Thought Setter’s verse. Perfect for the winter blahs.

On Jan 30th, Greenhouse will be premiering the video for “Cold out Here” at Carabar. The show is free, all ages and will feature perfomances by Greenhouse, Apocalypse Inc., Johnny Cashola and All Eyes Path.

MP3:Zerostar-Opposite Day

MP3:Zerostar-Opposite Day

The concept for “Opposite Day” is pretty self-explainatory. On opposite day the world is fair and Zerostar likes rappers that he normally doesn’t find up to par.  Zero executes the song very well because he is more proficient at talking in rhythmic patterns over minimal but authoritive production than the majority of people that persue such activities.

If you are feeling “Opposite Day”  then download Zero’s new EP, “Are we there yet?”.

Fly Union-Value Pack

Fly Union have this drinking squad called the “Rossi Posse”. It centers around drinking Rossi. I think thats why they have drink special at Whud-Up Wednesdays that involves Rossi. Not Sure. But its inexpensive and comes in a large quantity.

Above is a shaky video of a Fly Union and DJ Giovanny putting people down with the Rossi Posse on the Red Bull Party Bus that CJ Townsend hooked up last month. We basically rolled around drinking in a bus while CJ played various musics, including “Gold Chain” by Fly Union, a song thats has been popular on the blogs.

All free-loading booze deals aside, Fly Union is back with another download thats been getting burn. Value Pack is a 4 song EP that Fly Union is giving aways.

Envelope Is Performing @ CD101 Summerfest

Cd101 summerfest just got wavy . Envelope won the contest of public opinion. Oddly enough, he may be the only rapper in Columbus that truely follows the traditional formula of blowing up in his city. Neighborhood backing—->Crews—->Rocking the Party—->Record Sales—->Radio play.

(Granted radio play is on CD101 not 107.5, record sales are at indie rock stores not hoodspots, the party is either at Skullys or Bourbon Street not Icon or Club Ice, the Crews are BSA, Thought Set, Weightless instead of the Bloods, and his neighborhood is Clintonville not Livingston Ave. )

Too Short, told y’all:”Get in where you fit in”.

Anyway ,Envelope will be performing on @ the LC alongside Matt & Kim,  Stellastar —-who has some song that isn’t about spatial intelligence or night vision—- called Graffiti Eyes,Black Joe Louis and Honey Bears, the Living Things, Band of Skulls,  and Company of Thieves.

Tickets are 5 bucks.

Good job Columbus.
