O-Gee has long been one of Columbus’ best parties by playing Old School Hip Hop classics to a stylish crowd of party people. This Saturday Milk Bar’s DC Kareem, and Shoe Repertoire’s DJ Patrick along with Get Right’s DJ Detox are aiming to help you celebrate Halloween perfectly. Yessir! Last month, when Johnny Cashola dropped  the Wu-Tang classic Truimph it was a perfect moment.  Obviously Wu-Tang is in the air with Rza’s movie the Man With the Iron Fists bringing high levels of excitement and nostalgia.

Similarly, Thriller on Halloween weekend? What could be better? For more info hit up the O-Gee facebook invite.

MP3:The Catalyst feat Np-“Swim Good 2.0”

MP3:Catalyst Feat. N.P. – Swim Good 2.0 (1)

Get Right host,The Catalyst and fellow Though Setter N.P. decided to rap over Frank Ocean’s “Swim Good”
The Catalyst’s verse is dope because while it intially sounds like a rap about sexual conquests, it is actually a bi-polar tale of self-loathing and self-importance.
N.P.’s verse vaguely hints at failures because of a poor choice. I don’t think he is actual talking about himself, though.

Tonight in Columbus: Morrissey Sundays At Little Palace

Donewaiting has united with Sweatin’s Scotty Niemet and Milk Bar‘s Kareem Jackson to present Morrissey Sundays at Little Palace.

Morrissey Sundays starts at 7 and ends at 12. Usually people get there early. It is free.

I feel a little odd listing drinks specials for such an handsome event but there are 6 dollar import pitchers, and 4 dollar Bloody Mary’s.

Little Palace
240 South Fourth Street
Columbus,Ohio

Classic spun by Scott Neimet.
The Smiths will also be played.

Higher Level Art Show at the Milk Bar Tonight

MP3:Fabrashay A feat Zerostar and Le For The Uncool-My City(Produced By Path)

MP3:Fabrashay A Ft Zerostar and Le For the Uncool-My City (produced by Path)

In the greatest team-up since KMD’s and Brand Nubian’s “Nitty Gritty” Milk N Syrup, and Weightless are on the same track. Okay is nothing like that song but it is still nice to think about.
The song is produced by Path from All Eyes Path. It starts off unassuming and sparse and develops into something special. The email I got for this song said it was “untitled” so it may not be called “My City”.
Regardless, the song is off of “the Art Show” Fabrashay’s upcoming album. It’s dope and if you don’t download then hopefully you don’t listen to rap and are just waiting for more pictures of bearded men playing ukelalees.

Sidenote:Besides catching Zerostar at “get right, getting right” you can also catch him hosting “Grindtime 2 I Still Get it in Ohio” it is an emcee battle October 16th at Skullys.
More on that later this week.

MP3: DJ Detox & DJ Johnny Cashola-Get Your Mind RIght Vol. 1

Get Right Columbus is now also going to be a monthly in Brooklyn starting July 31st. Say Word?
Word.
The folks at the Knitting Factory carefully stumbled upon Get Right Columbus success. And they dealt with mathematics. And what does that add up to?

Every last Saturday, every month starting in July, DJ Detox, and Johnny Cashola will be bringing the same club bangers to the Planet aka Brooklyn is the borough.

Can’t make the commute to Get the Empire State of Mind Right? Disnae worry…Get Right will still be monthly in the C-O.

Daymon Day 2009 Photos & Videos

A few weeks ago we celebrated the 4th annual Daymon Day here in Columbus. We had a basketball tourney, tribute mural, emcee battle, parade and a rowdy dance party. We got our Rucker park on and then brought it into the streets.

For those that aren’t familar with Daymon Day but like things perhaps reading this article before or after viewing the following videos and pictures might give you some background info.

This video shot by A.J.(i think) shows the parade.

Watch it if you think marching 300 plus people in the middle of the road to Black Sabbath, Dilla, Cam’ron, M.O.P. , DJ Przm, Camu Tao, Jim Jones,Pharoah Monche and Racist Joe instrumentals to honor their fallen loved ones on an OSU gameday sounds interesting.

Photos taken by Danielle Kline that show a different detail after the jump. Continue reading
