America’s Number 1 Source for News, Weedsteeler.com is sending two of our finest to an inside-job city in style with a party at Bristol Bar this evening. The music will be provided by the usual cast of total shit-maniacs(sorry only Columbus staffers) ,  Chris Lutzko of the Unholy Two, and Sargent D of Stuff You Will Hate.Com/MetalInquisiton.

The event is hosted by CJ Townsend

MP3-Greenhouse feat The Catalyst-Cold Out Here

MP3: Greenhouse Featuring The Catalyst-Cold Out Here

My favorite two hip hop songs so far this Winter  are Jay Electronica’s “Exhibit C”,  and this Greenhouse/Catalyst collab, ” Cold Out Here” from Greenhouse’s EP, Electric Purgatory. On “Cold Out Here” all three emcees bring sobering depictions of how harsh these times can be.
Print raps about how stifling the world is right now, especially with the economy still fucked. Illogic speaks on ignoring detractors. And the Catalyst confesses to being an intoxicated, combustable mixture of talent and self-destructive tendencies in the midst of indifference.
Don’t sleep on the Thought Setter’s verse. Perfect for the winter blahs.

On Jan 30th, Greenhouse will be premiering the video for “Cold out Here” at Carabar. The show is free, all ages and will feature perfomances by Greenhouse, Apocalypse Inc., Johnny Cashola and All Eyes Path.

I Am Voting For Envelope For CD101 Summerfest

YouTube Preview Image

You know Donewaiting rides for rapper Envelope. He rides for us. Envelope played our Third and Sixth anniversaries.

Above is a video Jessica Morgan took of Envelope’s epic Comfest performance that was cut short because of some sort of noise rule that placates cowards  in nearby townhouses.

Well Well…looks like Envelope has a shot being the highlight at another outdoor festival here in Columbus

CD101 is having this thing where you vote for  on their website to pick who plays their  Summerfest with fellow Monster House alums, Matt & Kim and some other groups. If Envelope is added to this festival then his music will end up in regular rotation on CD101.

Aside from him being a good dood,  really no artist ,save maybe TNV  or Blueprint, deserves radio more than Envelope when you account draw, record sales, and resonance with an audience.

So help Tony help this world be less mediocre.  Click here to Vote

Get Right Sells Out Club Karma

Get Right Host DirtNap, The Catalyst & Weedsteeler doods.

Dj Detox, Johnny Cashola & co had their biggest night Friday. People were getting turned away at the door @ 1am.. .(unfortuantely) Continue reading

Welcome New Donewaiting Writer Jessica Morgan

get-right-crowd

Introduction from Wes Flexner:

The first time I hung out with Jessica Morgan she was giving me a ride to Dirtnap and Johnny Cashola’s from Club Carma. She pulled up the corner, turned down the random Gucci Mane song and yelled to a group of black doods, “Oh no, the blue-eyed white devil has me. I can’t help it. They eat pussy. That’s their tricknology. Damn devils.” Then she peeled out. After I turned rouge from the embarrassment, I decided girl could be Sarah Silvermen x 9 ether. Makes sense.

She is Thought Set (The Catalyst, Meta4c,Envelope etc). Almost a year later Jessica approached me at Dipset Night at Spice and told me she followed my blog when she was away at school at NYU, and told me I should put her on. She was already goof-balling on the Get Right Blog as Jessica the Gawd. When she approached that night, Jessica was rocking a Barbara Kruger shirt she copped at the Pictures Generation show at the Met with my homegirl Caitlin, something about all that made me be like, ‘ www.donewaiting.com understands you babygirl’ and then we pinky swore to be besties. This Get Right review is her first blog but believe me she will around town for the next few weeks. Jessica Morgan is the person in this picture that isn’t me.

When I think of the Spice Bar certain things come to mind; douche bag guys in bad clothes and their annoying cokehead girlfriends standing around being pretentious or drunkenly dancing to shitty Flow-Rida songs and spilling my drink. Those assholes were in for a rude awakening when the Milk Bar’s Get Right took the place over for its 2 year anniversary party; Get Right shut shit down providing three rooms of DJs playing a variety of music. DJ Pos 2 Has A Point(Re:Columbus Hip Hop)

YouTube Preview Image

Pos 2 is the homie from the willy-way back. Dood held down Bernies Hip Hop Night. He was Przm and Daymon’s right hand man. Anyway…dood will be launching a blog soon. It will be filled with Columbus History. As evident in the above video.

He thinks things are just fine in 2009.

Daymon Day Parade 2008: Yessir!

The 3rd Annual Daymon Day happened last Saturday. People treated it like a holiday. They honored friendship, being welcoming, kind, exciting and adsurdly funny.

Daymon Day Parade 9-20-2008

YouTube Preview Image

If you are a human being and consider yourself  someone who likes culture, art, music or anything….. Basically, if you like anything at all and aren’t a terrible unhappy person for chrissakes watch the above video. It’s of last year’s Daymon Day Parade.  Even if you are a terrible, unhappy person still watch the above video because maybe it will brighten you day.  Seriously watch the video.

Watched it? Way better than any desription I could ever give.

Anyway, the 3rd Annual Daymon Day Parade is upon us honoring Racist Joe aka So What born Daymon Dodson. We also tip our hats to Przm, Camu Tao, Heist, Phrite, Nasty Nate and anyone else that has passed away. This isn’t just about Daymon. It’s about making something negative into a joyous moment. Your devotions will find a vehicle.

The parade is starting at 5th & High this year. We were unable to secure a permit for Tuttle Park like previous years. But the good people involvedwith the Gay Street Festival downtown were nice enough to extend a stage to us so people could gather outdoors after the parade.

On that stage will be performances by Youth Attack’s Vile Gash, and The Catalyst (ODOT/Thought Set) DJ Detox and Tru Skills will hold the alley down between acts. The festival is free.

So this year the parade starts at 5th and High. It leaves promptly at 6. Our good friends at Milk Bar have offered us space to assemble. We will have dejays set up there at around 4. Milk Bar isn’t a pretentious boutique. It’s also not a bar. So kids are a ok.  So everyone please feel comfortable.

Anyway. Columbus loved Daymon. Parades are fun. Walking in the middle of High Street during a game day only comes once a year. So even if you didn’t know Daymon you can feel free to show up. He made everyone at ease when he was out. So it’s that spirit that will be in place. It’s about enjoying life. Bring an instrument or drum to make noise. We are trying to have a marching band. If the marching bad turns out either atonal like a No Wave performance or as fluid as a New Orleans funeral band regardless it will be tremendous.

Here are a couple MP3’s by the artist performing after the parade. They are abrasive but fitting for this paticular legacy of Columbus Music.

MP3: Vile Gash: Cleanse The World

MP3: The Catalyst: Excuse Me

Get Down on the Floor With the Get Right Mixtape.

This picture is not indicative of the turn-outs of Get Right. Hit their MySpace up to see the success. Also look at Johnny Cashola’s Lynard Skynard shirt. Look at Dirtnaps shirt too. Look at Detox cause he don’t dress weird. Just don’t look at Franz from Triceratops if you are at work.

The number one phrase. The only phrase that has counted is Get Your Mind Right. It’s Scientology with results instead of aliens. If not “Shh, lady, Gargle”.

Anyway.

So When DCKareem of the number one sex shop Milk Bar teamed with Columbus’ most versatile deejaay Detox, and Johnnny Cashola (who is known to be a part of fashionable society because of his or her regular participation in social activities and fondness for spending a significant amount of time entertaining and being entertained) linked up to make a dance party that is soo Columbus, soo well-respected; it was only a matter time they put a mixtape on smash.

It may be difficult wrap your head around this tape if you aren’t from Columbus. See Columbus really loves Gucci Mane, and Dipset. Trap rap has run downtown nightclub Culture (white and black) for as long I can remember being willing go to nightclubs with the insurance I would not have to hear drum n bass or jungle. We hate ravers. We like hard shit. And we like comedy. And this ain’t irony. Except when Detox brings back Rick Ross saying working with the police and over and over again. But you know what. Rick Ross works with the police. Continue reading

The Catalyst @ So What Wednesdays Tonight

The picture above is from a 2004 Killed In Action Show. The Catalyst is the guy standing on a table looking angry.

Anyway its 08, and his new mixtape, Fuck The Radio, is an instant classic. Dood has the voice and patterns of someone from the Rakim school. Bo has the humor and shock value of Big L and Eminem. He has the relevance of a T.I. or Wayne. And he can make social commentary like Rass Kass or Canibus. And he delivers it all with the clarity of Ludacris.

Sucks I put such a silly looking photo of him up there, huh. Cause dood could easily be the next great. Plus he reps the O-H, like iono, John Kasich. Anyway him and I got drunk and I documented the conversation. I am gonna completely misrepresent him by posting said interaction.

(The Catalyst will be performing tonight @ Cafe Bourbon Street. DJ Top Speed from Indy will be performing as well.)

Wes Flexner:Who is a bigger wigger Envelope or Copywrite?

The Catalyst:(Laughs)Definitely Pete(Copywrite). If I didn’t know Tony(Envelope) I wouldn’t be able to tell he even listened to rap on first impression.

WF:Why are you so fond of hanging out with wiggers?

TC:Cuz half of me is a huge wigger. The black side of me is an oreo. He’s comparable to that of Bryant Gumbel. The white side of me is a West Side Hilltop Resident with bangs.

WF:How does the blackside manifest itself?

TC:Through attempting to rap and occasionally smoking Newports while drunk.

WF:That doesnt sound like Byrant Gumble?

TC:Well see… that’s where it gets complex.the black side manifests itself through the white wigger. Cuz the black side isn’t black at all.The black side reads the Wall Street Journal while drinking lots of milk. And listening to Abba. And it has good credit.
